Today, we apply our expertise and innovative spirit to broader challenges, developing advanced technologies, sustainable practices, and innovative manufacturing processes that redefine what is possible across various industries.   About the Role: We are seeking a talented 3D Computational Designer to join our team developing next-generation biomedical products, including custom CPAP masks and facial equipment optimized for individual comfort, fit, and performance. This role will involve leveraging Python-based 3D modeling tools such as Open3D, trimesh, and Blender's Python API (bpy) to create parametric, procedural models that integrate facial scan data and are optimized for additive manufacturing   This position offers an exciting opportunity to combine computational design, product development, and biomedical innovation in a dynamic, cross-functional environment. .   Responsibilities include:
  • Develop procedural 3D models using Python libraries (Open3D, trimesh, bpy) for facial equipment and CPAP mask designs.
  • Process and integrate facial scan data (e.g., point clouds or meshes) into design workflows for ergonomic fit and precision.
  • Build custom automation tools and Blender add-ons to optimize and streamline modeling pipelines.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and designers to ensure manufacturability and alignment with 3D printing constraints.
  • Prototype and iterate on models, validating designs through performance testing and feedback loops.
  • Document design scripts, workflows, and specifications to ensure scalability and reproducibility.
  • Stay current on advancements in computational design, biomedical modeling, and 3D printing technologies.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python for 3D modeling, with hands-on experience using Open3D, trimesh, and Blender's Python API (bpy).
  • Strong understanding of 3D geometry, mesh processing, and procedural modeling techniques.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing workflows and CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
  • Experience working with 3D scan data (e.g., AR or photogrammetry-based facial scanning).
  • Proven track record of developing functional, ergonomic 3D models or products.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate complex requirements into efficient solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience in cross-disciplinary teams.

Bonus:
  • Experience with biomedical or ergonomic product design.
  • Familiarity with facial scanning technologies such as MaskFit AR.
  • Background in generative design or machine learning-driven 3D modeling.

Compensation:
  • From $85,000 to $95,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience.

Work Arrangement:
Hybrid (primarily based in Burnaby, with occasional work required at our Port Coquitlam facility)
