*Position Summary:*
Miller Excavating, Inc. is seeking a Diesel Mechanic for our afternoon shift to work independently and with other mechanics to complete repairs on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment at Miller Excavating, Inc.'s shop by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*
· Performs preventative maintenance to trucks, heavy equipment, trailers and small equipment.
· Diagnoses engine mechanical and fuel systems issues on trucks including engines, drive train components, hydraulic systems, air and electric systems.
· Utilizes computer systems to diagnose issues with electronic engines on trucks.
· Utilizes tools for repair and maintenance of hydraulic systems.
· Repairs 12-volt D.C. electrical systems on truck and 24-volt DC on heavy equipment
· Fabricates and repairs equipment using steel and aluminum welding equipment.
· Required to work independently at times, assuring repair decisions are made utilizing appropriate experience and tasks are completed and in a timely manner, with safety a priority at all times.
· Adheres to the company’s safety policies and maintains a safe work environment at all times.
· Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations.
· Other projects or duties as assigned by Management.
*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:*
· High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training/certification preferred. Vocational students encouraged to apply.
· One to two years of related work experience preferred.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of truck components.
· Experience using diagnostic software is a plus.
· Experience with Mack, Peterbilt, and Caterpillar brands is a plus.
· Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) Inspector Certification is a MUST
· Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or ability to obtain.
· Ability to follow all safety rules and regulations as directed by Management.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with changing priorities and situations.
· Must be able to effectively communicate with coworkers and Management, verbally and in writing.
· Must be able to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions.
*Other:*
· Work hours are afternoons/evenings Monday through Friday.
· Option for 10-hour work days, Monday through Thursday.
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Employee frequently works alone and with others. Employee is frequently exposed to moving machinery, odors, and dust. Often exposed to environment conditions, loud noises, and variable weather including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat. Most often in a typical shop environment.

Experience:
* Diesel Engine, Truck & Heavy Equipment Mechanics: 1 year (Required)
* Diesel engine repair: 1 year (Required)
* Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Required)
License/Certification:
* MN Commercial Vehicle Inspector certification (Preferred)
* Class A Commercial Drivers License (Preferred)
Shift availability:
* Day Shift (Preferred)
* Night Shift (Preferred)
