Overview

We are looking for a legal coordinator with litigation and/or administrative law experience to join our Prohibited Action Complaints department at our head office in Richmond.

In this role, you'll be responsible for the management of an assigned caseload, including communicating with workers, employers, and other representatives in the coordination and facilitation of the prohibited action complaint process. If you're a good communicator, a self-starter, and want to be part of a committed group that provides key services supporting our organization's strategic goals of improving the health and safety of workplaces across BC, we want to hear from you.

You'll ensure WorkSafeBC is serving stakeholders across B.C. effectively.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of some remote work with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

For this position, the successful candidate is required to work in our Richmond office a minimum of 3 days per week.

What you'll do
  • Manage an assigned caseload of prohibited action complaints and ensure deadlines and procedural requirements are met.
  • Manage legal queries by directing requests to appropriate resources and responding to inquiries that do not require legal advice.
  • Monitor case progression and identify potential issues for paralegal, Prohibited Action Complaints lawyers and / or managers.
  • Prepare correspondence on the progression of complaints.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of Prohibited Action Complaints policies, procedures, guidelines, programs and systems.
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

  • Exhibit professionalism and diplomacy with individuals of varied backgrounds, respond tactfully to clients in situations, and respond flexibly to changing priorities
  • Gather and analyze information, evaluate alternative solutions, and recommend an appropriate course of action
Your background and experience
  • A legal administrative assistant certificate combined with a minimum of two years of experience as a legal assistant
  • Knowledge of administrative law or litigation, legal procedures and the preparation of legal documents
  • Above average Microsoft Word and Excel skills
Important to know
  • Consent to a criminal record check Successfully meet two different criminal record clearances, one of which meets the legal requirements under the Criminal Records Review Act to work with children and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Confirm you're legally entitled to work in Canada

Salary

$31.03 / hourly
