As a software design engineer, the candidate will work closely with management and engineers to establish software design needs, establish plans for implementing software, and provide expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of software, component needs, and identify specific quality requirements. Assist with non-conformance reviews and analyze engineering change data and coordinate changes with engineering, quality, and manufacturing activities. Plans, controls, and directs configuration control activities for testers software to ensure customer contract requirements are met by applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes. Tooling and Tester Technical Services (T3S) Support includes software design of testing apparatuses. Responsibilities range from conceptual design, detailed software design (instrument drivers, system integration, database design/interface, report generation, related software quality assurance documentation), analysis, defining and executing qualification/testing plans, field support, as well as project management. Designing and developing software applications used to automate complex instrumentation systems perform calculations on and manipulated very large data sets, interface with databases, create user friendly operator interfaces, and consolidate results into legible reports. Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related discipline with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) OR a Master's degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA OR a PhD in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related discipline with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA There is a minimum GPA requirement up to 4 years post?graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire
Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2A Requirements
In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job?related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. The minimum education and experience for the lowest career level in the job posting range are listed under Minimum Job Requirements. Successful candidates hired into a higher career level than the minimum in the range must meet the requirements listed in the job leveling charts for the career level into which they are being hired. Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
