About the Role

As Mechanical Estimator/Project Manager, you will balance hands-on estimating proficiency with the leadership, communication, and commercial insight required to drive successful project execution. This dual-role position is central to securing new work, overseeing field productivity, and ensuring projects meet their financial and schedule objectives. You'll collaborate closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams while representing our company with professionalism and technical confidence.

Key Responsibilities Estimating & Preconstruction (40-50%)
  • Prepare accurate material and labour take-offs, budgets, and proposals.

  • Lead pre-tender site walkthroughs and review drawings, specifications, and tender documents.

  • Coordinate tendering activities with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

  • Develop persuasive, competitive proposal packages that support business development.

Project Management & Execution (30-40%)
  • Manage procurement, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and field support.

  • Provide leadership to field teams, ensuring labour productivity targets are met.

  • Conduct regular site visits; lead meetings and address field issues proactively.

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and suppliers.

Financial & Reporting (20%)
  • Monitor project costs, labour performance, and budgets.

  • Prepare and manage progress draws, change orders, and receivables.

  • Deliver updates on project status, risks, financial performance, and forecasts to senior leadership.

Requirements
  • Minimum 5+ years mechanical contracting experience (HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, or multi-trade).

  • Proven ability to drive labour productivity and improve field efficiency.

  • Strong technical knowledge including blueprint reading, construction math, and BC Building Codes.

  • Ability to present confidently to clients and support business development.

  • Proficiency with Procore and QuickBooks; familiarity with Microsoft Project, CAD, and estimating software.

  • Red Seal certification (preferred).

  • Journeyperson trade background or engineering/construction management degree an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal communication, negotiation skills, and client-facing professionalism.
