Position Summary:

The Manager of Maintenance is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair activities of the facilities, equipment, lines, vehicles and systems. The role involves managing a team, coordinating with various stakeholders, and implementing effective maintenance strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage the installation, maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, vehicles and systems, ensuring optimal functioning, safety, and compliance with regulations.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues during equipment breakdowns.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for repetitive failures and drive permanent solutions.
  • Provide emergency repairs and scheduled maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, procedures, and protocols to minimize downtime and maximize equipment lifespan.
  • Manage, hire, and lead a team of maintenance technicians and project personnel, providing guidance, training in troubleshooting, and performance evaluations. (electricians, plumbers, welders, mechanics)
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess the condition and performance of assets, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing necessary upgrades or replacements.
  • Allocate resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to support project execution and ensure optimal utilization.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols and workplace safety standards in accordance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Train maintenance staff on LOTO procedures, safety protocols, and equipment handling.
  • Manage departmental budgets, controlling maintenance costs and resource efficiency.
  • Implement inventory management protocols and maintain accurate spare parts inventory to support continuous equipment operation.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to optimize pricing and delivery performance.
  • Support automation upgrades including PLC and robotics troubleshooting.
  • Utilize hand and power tools, electric meters, and diagnostic equipment effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned and developed

Qualification and Experience:

  • College diploma or relevant vocational training in engineering, project management, facilities management, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CMRP) are preferred.
  • Valid Industrial Millwright or Electrician License (Ontario) is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience in maintenance management, preferably in an agriculture industry or organization.
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, irrigation and electrical-mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with automated production lines, PLCs, and industrial robotics.
  • Familiarity with maintenance best practices, preventive maintenance strategies, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team of professionals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to identify issues, evaluate options, and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Sound financial acumen, with the ability to develop and manage budgets, analyze financial data, and make informed decisions.
  • Develop software protocols relating to project management and maintenance. (Polariks or similar)
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to project execution and maintenance activities.
