POSITION OVERVIEW
Potlotek First Nation is seeking a Greenhouse Manager to oversee operations for the Potlotek Greenhouse and the newly acquired Greenhouse Co-op Ltd. in St. Peter's. This position supports Potlotek's long-term goals in agriculture, food sustainability, employment, and economic development.
The successful candidate will be responsible for daily operations, staffing, crop planning, community programming, budgeting, and ensuring that greenhouse activities align with Potlotek's community-focused vision. Strong leadership skills, horticultural knowledge, and experience in greenhouse operations or agriculture are preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Oversee daily greenhouse operations in Potlotek and St. Peter's.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and support greenhouse staff.
- Develop yearly and seasonal crop plans informed by community input.
- Maintain plant production, crop health, greenhouse systems, and facility safety.
- Conduct bi-annual soil tests and monitor soil and plant vitality.
- Maintain inventory of produce, seeds, supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Support local community growers and promote knowledge sharing.
- Work collaboratively with PFN departments (Education, MPAL, Youth Centre, Health, Elders Liaison) to support community participation.
- Prepare reports on operations, production, staffing, and activities.
- Track budgets, revenue, and expenditures; maintain accurate financial records.
- Prepare annual reports and ensure all funding documentation is completed.
- Assist with the transition and continued operations of the St. Peter's Greenhouse Co-op.
- Promote greenhouse initiatives through advertising, social media, and public engagement.
- Build partnerships with growers, artisans, businesses, and community organizations.
- Support cultural programming, tourism, and youth entrepreneurship opportunities.
- Follow all PFN workplace, HR, Code of Conduct, safety, and administrative policies.
- Perform additional duties to support overall greenhouse operations and community development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 or equivalent required; post-secondary education in agriculture, horticulture, business, or a related field is an asset.
- Two to three years of experience in greenhouse operations, agriculture, horticulture, or related work.
- Experience supervising staff and coordinating daily operations.
- Strong business sense with experience in budgeting, financial tracking, and documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online communication tools.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and time management abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between greenhouse locations.
- Current Criminal Record Check required.
- Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset.
