Overview
APEX is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Aerospace Component Manufacturing Group. This is a full-time, permanent role reporting to the Special Processing Supervisor.
In this position, you will provide laboratory and quality assurance support for surface treatment processes and process testing. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with aerospace quality standards and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory testing, analyze and interpret data, compile results, and prepare technical reports.
  • Approve analysis results, authorize re-analysis, calculate process solution additions, and perform bath dumps and new bath make-ups.
  • Coordinate and manage periodic testing schedules, including lot acceptance testing.
  • Support new process development, process improvements, and training initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining facility certifications and customer approvals.
  • Monitor, maintain, and interpret key process performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Conduct internal audits in accordance with the quality program.
  • Support NADCAP accreditation and AS9100 certification through program and process maintenance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Inspection, Planning, and Methods.
  • Support quality initiatives as directed by the Quality Manager.
  • Assist with evaluation and qualification of employees performing special processing and laboratory testing.
  • Oversee calibration activities for measuring and monitoring equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies, equipment, and ensure a safe, secure, and organized work environment.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Certificate in Chemical Technology , Chemical Engineering Technology, Applied Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Laboratory experience, preferably in manufacturing, aerospace, or special processing setting.
  • Strong understanding of chemical analysis, testing methods, and data interpretation.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to adapt to change and work through challenges.
Assets
  • Experience in metal finishing processes (e.g., pre-treatments, anodizing, paint finishes) or related manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems such as AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP , or similar standards.
  • Experience supporting laboratory or process audits and certifications.
  • Familiarity with ERP or quality systems such as SYSPRO and Uni-Point .
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, manufacturing specifications, safety rules, operating procedures, and technical manuals.
  • Workplace First Aid & CPR with AED, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and WHMIS/SDS training.
