AIRBUS Defence and Space Limited is seeking an experienced and innovative Software Architect to lead the design, development, and evolution of complex software systems for critical defence and space applications. This role is pivotal in shaping the technical direction, ensuring architectural integrity, and driving the successful delivery of cutting‑edge software solutions.
Architectural Design and Leadership: Lead the architectural design, definition, and documentation of software systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives, technical requirements, and industry best practices for defence and space domains.
Technical Roadmapping: Develop and maintain technical roadmaps for software products and platforms, identifying opportunities for innovation, efficiency gains, and risk mitigation.
Technology Evaluation and Selection: Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and tools to enhance software development processes, performance, and scalability.
System Integration and Interoperability: Define and oversee the integration strategies for various software components, subsystems, and external systems, ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability.
Security and Compliance: Design and implement robust security architectures and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and customer‑specific security requirements for sensitive defence and space applications.
Performance and Scalability: Architect solutions that meet stringent performance, reliability, and scalability requirements, conducting performance analysis and optimization as needed. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
8‑10 years of progressive experience in software development, with at least 3‑5 years in a dedicated Software Architect role.
Proven experience in designing and delivering complex, large‑scale software systems, preferably within the defence, aerospace, or other highly regulated industries.
Demonstrable experience with various architectural patterns (e.g., microservices, event‑driven, monolithic decomposition) and their appropriate application.
Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Python, Ada) relevant to embedded or real‑time systems.
Extensive knowledge of software design principles, object‑oriented design, and design patterns.
Experience with real‑time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development is highly desirable.
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) where applicable.
Understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure software development practices.
Experience with model‑driven architecture (MDA) tools and techniques is a plus. This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.
