Job Description
Our client, a leading and well-regarded group of companies based in Sydney, NS, is seeking an experienced Controller for a newly created role to bring accounting functions in-house while providing strategic oversight of the company's financial operations.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:- Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support informed business decisions
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with leadership to provide financial insights and recommendations that drive operational efficiency and profitability
- Lead and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and professional development
- Liaise with external auditors, financial institutions, and key stakeholders
- CPA designation is strongly preferred, but a combination of relevant education and progressive accounting experience will also be considered
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or Controller-level role
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls
- Proven analytical skills and the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights
- Experience within the food services, hospitality, or retail sectors considered an asset
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
