The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of Europes largest research organisations. We have an opportunity for you to join a small team of highly experienced engineers and system developers, where you will focus on the development of a cloud-based platform for microelectronics design including secure data management within complex databases, sophisticated user interfaces and close-coupled data visualisation systems. Our systems are being continually developed, both on premise and in commercial clouds, to deliver efficient and easy-to-use systems for our customers. You will play a pivotal role in our development of our cloud-based design platform to 650 universities and research labs throughout Europe. This high-profile work is essential to ensuring that we remain at the forefront of a rapidly evolving microelectronics sector. Key activities include: Architecting and leading the development of sophisticated solutions for microelectronics design in AWS and Azure clouds that are robust and intuitive for end customers to use. Provide strong technical leadership to junior developers through your extensive technical knowledge of development of complex systems for engineering applications. Implement robust solutions to protect sensitive technology data licensed under strict NDAs, as well as end customers own intellectual property. Use agile decision-making and extensive technical knowledge of modern compute solutions for both on premise and in the cloud. Manage the development of our cloud-based solutions to meet the current and emerging needs of customers. Essential Requirements and Skills Youll need to have a degree (minimum 2:1) and significant directly relevant experience in a field of study, such as computer science or software engineering. Substantial track record of successfully delivering projects in relevant complex software engineering applications where timely delivery to specification is critical. Extensive practical experience of working with external customers to find solutions for easy configuration and deployment of suitable compute architectures in commercial clouds (e.g. AWS or Azure) for engineering applications. Significant relevant experience of leading full stack development of significant websites that store, retrieve and manipulate data. The post holder will have knowledge of SQL and basic database design, including the design of normalised data structures for efficient storage of diverse customer and engineering data. Excellent knowledge of Linux computing, including the fundamental principles behind the Linux operating system, its basic configuration and security. Clear, comprehensive, credible and coherent application demonstrating good interpersonal skills, with the ability to identify and communicate relevant technical information in English. A self-motivated team player with an analytical and logical approach to problem-solving, a service-oriented outlook, and proven track record of working effectively within a close-knit team, including the mentoring development of junior staff.
