Role Overview: The Head of Payments Platform Engineering will lead the end-to-end engineering strategy, architecture, and delivery of our next-generation payments platform. This role is critical in building a modular, secure, and scalable platform that supports a wide range of financial products and services. Qualifications: 8-10 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong track record of delivering complex, user-facing applications in regulated, large-scale environments, ideally within Investment, Asset, or Wealth Management. Deep expertise in React or React Native, with hands‑on experience in secure API integration, authentication flows, and front‑end architecture. Skilled in writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, with a strong grasp of TDD/BDD practices. Comfortable designing and operating in both on‑prem and cloud‑native environments, with working knowledge of AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes. Advocates for observability and service health, using tools like Prometheus and Grafana to ensure reliability and performance. Champions quality and security, embedding testing and scanning into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows. Passionate about mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and driving technical excellence across teams. Energized by fast‑paced, regulated environments where speed, compliance, and innovation go hand‑in‑hand. Your Technical Toolkit: React / React Native / TypeScript JavaScript / HTML / CSS RDBMS (Oracle, Sybase) / NoSQL (Document DB) AWS / Docker / Kubernetes CI/CD pipelines: GitHub Actions, Harness Testing frameworks: Jest, Cypress, Appium Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana What You’ll Be Doing: Building and deploying scalable, secure, and compliant software at pace. Integrating HL web and mobile apps with existing and new systems to deliver a seamless client experience across a range of products and services. Delivering value iteratively, always focused on customer outcomes and short feedback loops. Creating and visualising application metrics to help understand usage patterns and anomalies. Reviewing code with peers, collaborating across teams to solve problems, with an eye for both quality and velocity. Innovating, bringing new ideas to the table for adoption throughout HL Digital. Driving technical decisions and shaping how we build our services. Working closely with Product Managers and business stakeholders to align engineering outcomes with HL’s mission and client value. Championing a culture of continuous learning, cross‑functional collaboration, and inclusivity with a growth mindset.
