Summary:
The Senior Director of IT Strategy, Planning and Governance enables the IT organization to operate at the highest level of performance, working with IT leadership to drive execution of the IT organization strategy. This highly visible role serves as a trusted advisor to the CIO. The Senior Director of IT Strategy, Planning and Governance assists in determining and managing top priorities and represents the CIO in working with internal and external stakeholders and is a key member in driving strategic initiatives across our IT organization.
The position focuses on ensuring that the IT organization "does the right things" through strategy and governance, as well as "doing things right" through organizational and operational model development and performance management. The position can also extend the responsibilities into developing nascent IT capabilities, such as enterprise architecture, Enterprise IT PMO, enterprise change management and business relationship management, until they are mature enough to function as independent teams.
You are an entrepreneurial, change agent who can work with employees and managers to proactively address the initiatives of the CIO, and drive consistency across and within Benchmark. The Senior Director of IT Strategy, Planning and Governance must be people-oriented with excellent conflict management skills, innate ability to set direction, execute on initiatives cross-functionally, and communicate well with different personality types.
Responsibilities:
• Partners with the CIO and the IT leadership team in driving technology vision, prioritization, roadmap and leadership alignment thereof
• Is responsible for driving focus and prioritization within the IT organization through establishing strategic planning and governance principles and processes.
• Oversees the development, optimization, and maintenance of IT policies, procedures, methodologies, and governance — as well as performance management frameworks and metrics — to ensure the IT organization delivers value to the enterprise.
• Is responsible for directing the preparation, review and consolidation of business plans and budgets for the IT organization.
• Establishes and implements continuous-improvement programs for the IT organization.
• Build and manage an improved IT workforce management strategy, that includes sourcing, ongoing skills and competency inventory and gap analysis, a skills development program, and onboarding plans by role.
• Partner closely with the People (HR) Business Partner on all people, talent, and performance initiatives
• Drive internal engagement, presentations, and communications. For example, draft quarterly All IT Staff Meetings content, Monthly Tech Talks, Newsletters, IT recognition awards, etc.
• Foster and sustain IT engagement programs to increase employee involvement, connectedness, and retention.
• Drive IT portfolio and capacity planning, priorities and overall tracking of on-going initiatives
• Identify accelerators and friction points within the IT Organization and propose initiatives or activities accordingly
• Help drive a strong, candid team dynamic with productive, professional dialogue
• Drives and facilitates effective collaboration and communications between the IT organization and the firm at large.
• Build decision-making frameworks, then drive socialization within IT
• Coordinate and lead meetings from time to time, on behalf of the CIO
• Keep the CIO and IT department leaders up to date on important information going on across the IT organization and firm
• Maintain understanding of overall firm objectives and strategy; and help the IT organization draw connections with their work

Education, Experience and Skills
• Bachelor's or master's degree in business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience
• 15 or more years in IT and business/industry.
• Experience in business/industry (beyond IT), managing cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders
• Expertise in budget planning, financial management and workforce management
• Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype
• Ability to improve operational efficiency, service delivery and information management across the IT organization
• Ability to forge strong relationships and build rapport with business partners at all levels within the organization
• Strong conflict management and project management skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Proven experience organizing and directing multiple teams and departments
• Ability to gracefully navigate executive-level interpersonal dynamics
