The Work

Reporting to the Associate Director, AML/ATF Modeling and Analytics, the Associate Manager, AML/ATF Modeling and Analytics, leads the AML modeling and analytics supporting Equitable Bank's enterprise-wide AML/ATF program. The Associate Manager is responsible for execution of the strategy on modeling and analytics related to the name screening, payment screening, transaction monitoring and customer risk scoring models for AML/ATF program. The environment is fast-paced and requires the effective time management of multiple tasks and projects.

The Core Responsibilities
  • Execute and maintain the Bank's AML/ATF model development standards, including sampling methodology.
  • Enhance AML/ATF rules/scenarios to be compliant with dynamic regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Tune existing rules/scenarios to reduce false positives and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of program.
  • Document the rule/scenario/model methodology, process, assumptions etc. to enhance model governance and meet requirements of audit and regulatory exams.
  • Work with IT, data teams and compliance teams to integrate models into monitoring platforms and systems.
  • Identify and implement best industry practices in model design, including (not limited) conceptual soundness, data preparation, assumption management, and comprehensive testing that fit the size of Equitable.
  • Explore advanced analytics such as AI and Machine Learning to identify AML/ATF patterns and emerging risks to improve detection capabilities.
  • Keep abreast of and stay updated on industry trends, emerging risks, and best practices and incorporate as appropriate and fit for the size of Equitable.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.
  • Provide timely and effective feedback to staff.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with the compliance teams, business client, risk management and technology to complete AML projects.
  • Provide technical input to technology, other model developers and/or risk management groups in the development and implementation of rules and models. 
Let's Talk About You
  • Degree in Computer Science or IT, master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in data and analytics.
  • Excellent analytical, risk assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple competing priorities, projects, and timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills required to communicate AML knowledge, keep stakeholders informed, and communicate requirements to external vendors
  • Excellent knowledge of statistical methods. Knowledge of machine learning methods is an asset.
  • Advance programming skills of Python and at least one of other programming languages/tools (e.g., R).
  • Advanced skills using statistical and data science related packages (pandas, numpy, scipy, slearn).
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL is required.

The incumbent will be working hybrid and in office time will be spent working from Equitable Bank's additional office space located at Ontario Street, Toronto, ON .
