Role Description: This is a full-time, on-site Labour Relations Specialist role based in Scarborough, ON. The Labour Relations Specialist will handle day-to-day labor relations activities, collaborate with union representatives, address grievances, and support collective bargaining processes. The role includes advising management on labor and employment law matters, maintaining positive employee relations, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Additionally, the specialist will proactively identify and resolve workplace issues to foster a healthy work environment and contribute to organizational goals.
Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Labor and Employment Law to ensure compliance and advise stakeholders effectively.
  • Expertise in Employee Relations and Labor Relations, with a proven ability to foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Experience in Collective Bargaining, including preparation, negotiation, and execution of union agreements.
  • Competence in handling Grievances, mediating conflicts, and resolving disputes in a fair and professional manner.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Labour Relations, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience within the construction or utility industries is an asset.

Duties:
  • Supporting and participating in collective bargaining, including research, preparation, and negotiations.
  • Managing the grievance process, from investigation through resolution.
  • Representing the company in arbitrations and other labour-related proceedings.
  • Advising leaders and employees on labour laws, HR policies, and collective agreements.
  • Helping develop and implement labour relations strategies, policies, and programs.
  • Providing guidance and support on day-to-day labour and HR matters.
  • Researching best practices in compensation, benefits, and health & safety to support continuous improvement.
