King Cole Kitchens is a division of King Cole Ducks LTD, the only fully vertically integrated farm of its kind in North America. Our duck products are sold fresh and local to our community, and are featured in retail food stores, butcher shops, and delis across North America. We also serve restaurants, resorts, hotels, and cruise lines around the world. Each year King Cole produces approximately 2.5 million ducks to create our delicious lines of Ready-to-Cook and Fully Cooked duck products.

King Cole Kitchens is a federally inspected food processing facility that produces ready to eat products. Our primary business is producing fully cooked, ready to eat duck products for King Cole Ducks, but we also operate as a co-packer for other meat producers/suppliers.

Job Summary

The Facilities & Equipment Maintenance Specialist at King Cole Kitchens, will keep our operation running safely and efficiently. The role will perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on production equipment and facility systems in alignment with the food safety plan, manage contractors, oversee parts and supply inventory and train operators on proper equipment use and care.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm

Reports to: General Manager

Location: 1188 Gorham Street, Unit A, Newmarket, ON L3Y 8W4

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance on production equipment and support systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Facility Maintenance

  • Oversee upkeep of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Ensure facility meets federal food safety standards and sanitation requirements.
  • Coordinate and conduct repairs and upgrades to maintain operational efficiency.

Contractor Management

  • Schedule and supervise external contractors for specialized repairs and services.
  • Ensure contractors comply with facility safety and food safety protocols.
  • Review and approve contractor work to meet quality standards.

Maintenance Program Management

  • Maintain the maintenance program in alignment with the food safety plan.
  • Ensure proper documentation of maintenance records, inspections, and calibrations.
  • Keep equipment specifications and manuals organized and accessible.
  • Monitor compliance with preventative maintenance schedules and corrective actions.

Parts and Supplies Management

  • Maintain inventory of critical spare parts and supplies.
  • Order and track parts to ensure availability for scheduled maintenance.
  • Optimize inventory levels to reduce costs and prevent shortages.

Training

  • Train operators on proper equipment operations, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Provide guidance on preventative care to reduce equipment failures.

Other duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years' maintenance experience in food processing, manufacturing, or federally regulated facility.
  • Solid troubleshooting in mechanical systems, pneumatics, and basic industrial electrical (reading schematics, sensors, VFDs).
  • Proven LOTO discipline, safe work practices, and familiarity with GMP, HACCP and food safety compliance requirements.
  • Ability to complete documentation (work orders, QA logs) with attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in cold/wet environments; able to lift/move parts and tools safely.
  • Trade certification (e.g., 433A Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, 442A Industrial Electrician) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with refrigeration/HVAC in food facilities; exposure to CFIA compliance.
