Summary
The Operations Engineer provides engineering solutions in support of safe and reliable operations and regulatory compliance. They promote "right-sized" engineering design, creative solutions, and consistency through engineering design principles and expertise.
Accountabilities (Duties & Responsibilities)
- Recommending solutions to technical challenges and to ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Consults with other internal (and external) experts, Project Engineers/Managers, Operations and engineering contractors during FEED, detailed process engineering design, and start-up activities on assigned projects.
- Ensures regulatory compliance for all engineering activities performed.
- Provides engineering support and guidance for growth projects to ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from asset changes without negatively impacting the safety or operability of production facilities.
- Develops and fosters strong, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provides training, guidance, and mentorship in the development of the capacity and capability of in-house engineers.
- Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
- May perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications – Related Education, Experience & Skills
- Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering and current APEGA or APEGS membership as a practicing member (P.Eng.) in good standing is essential.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in support of the operation of major crude oil terminals and pipelines, oil refining or asphalt topping facilities, NGL/refined product storage and handling facilities, rail and truck load/offload racks and associated measurement facilities.
- Exhibits in-depth knowledge of relevant codes (ABSA, ASME, CSA, API, NACE, etc.) and other technical regulations and standards.
- Demonstrates effective time management and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to manage and troubleshoot a broad spectrum of technical issues.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to make effective decisions as necessary and take a leadership role in solving problems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with functional and operating areas.
- Represents and promotes the company in a responsible, positive and professional manner.
- Demonstrates leadership abilities and experience in mentoring junior engineers.
- Ability to understand environmental impacts in their area and complete activities in a responsible manner to minimize environmental impacts.
- Field office and project management experience will be a strong asset. Working Conditions
- Travel may be required up to 15% of the time.
- The majority of work is performed in an office environment. When employees are outside of the office, they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
