We are seeking a meticulous and organized Shipping Clerk to join our logistics team in Detroit, Michigan. This role is fundamental to ensuring that all outgoing shipments are accurately documented, prepared, and dispatched in a timely manner. As a Shipping Clerk, you will be responsible for managing shipping documentation, coordinating with carriers, and verifying shipment details to prevent errors and delays. Your attention to detail and understanding of shipping procedures will be key to maintaining our reputation for reliable delivery and efficient logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare shipping labels, bills of lading, and other shipping documentation.
- Verify the accuracy of outgoing shipments against customer orders and shipping manifests.
- Coordinate with freight carriers to schedule pickups and deliveries.
- Track shipments and provide updates on their status.
- Communicate with internal departments (e.g., warehouse, sales) regarding shipping matters.
- Inspect outgoing packages for proper packaging and labeling.
- Maintain organized shipping records and files.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks as needed, performing necessary Lifting.
- Contribute to the overall efficiency of the logistics and shipping department.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a Shipping Clerk or in a similar logistics/administrative role.
- Proficiency in shipping software and general computer skills (MS Office).
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Understanding of shipping procedures and carrier requirements.
- Must be able to perform tasks that involve moderate Lifting up to 30 lbs.
- Familiarity with warehouse safety procedures and the importance of PPE.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
