Job Overview:
Responsible for performing a wide range of engineering project support duties within the department, which includes assisting with packaging automation, research, and other network engineering components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support CapEx & Process engineering / ITS projects
- Assist with documentation, layouts, equipment specifications, risk assessments, and vendor coordination.
- Help prepare engineering drawings, track project actions, and support installations
- Data Collection, IIoT and Scada Integration
- Work on collecting operational data (vibration, motor current, cycle counts, runtime, etc.) and integrating it into Ignition or cloud platforms.
- Includes configuring tags, dashboards, MQTT messages, and assisting in proof-of-concept IoT applications.
- Support Automation Controls Development / existing infrastructure
- Assist in programming, testing, and troubleshooting PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMIs, and SCADA systems (Ignition)
- Tasks include updating logic, verifying sensor/actuator behavior, helping with FAT/SAT, and supporting line controls improvements.
- Monitoring how bandwidth is used and distributed
- Update documentation and network diagrams, network topologies (physical and logical) and their characteristics. Unit Ops Level.
- Document network configurations, problems, and related resolutions
- Create documentation of network devices used for remote access including firmware / vendor
The Recipe for Success:
- Currently enrolled in or has completed an Engineering or a related post-secondary program
- Previous experience learning Engineering concepts in an educational institution
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and project management skills
- Formal IT and Security Network training
- Formal Controls/Automation training (PLC, Scada, IIoT)
- Strong analytical skills including troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills to effectively lead teams to quickly identify issues, causes and sustainable corrective actions
- Excellent organization skills, with an ability to work on multiple projects at a time
- Must be able to handle fast paced environment with competing priorities and demands
- Experience with MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint)
- Must have the ability to work independently with little supervision
