What We Do There has never been a more exciting time to be at WAHA. We are an integrated health system providing the full continuum of care to the six communities of the western James Bay coast with over 500 employees, physicians, and partners in care. - Skill in the application of the professional sciences of food, nutrition and management
- Have knowledge regarding the Canadian Diabetes Association Guidelines for the Nutritional Management of Diabetes, and Clinical Practice Guidelines
- Ability to develop normal and therapeutic diets
- Ability to adapt normal and therapeutic diets to the group's and to the individual's cultural, religious, economic needs and preferences.
- Ability to integrate nutrition services into the health delivery system including the preventive program
- Conduct professional nutritional assessments, evaluations, counselling as it pertains to diabetes management
- Conduct clinics and provides education in a variety of formats: one -on-one consultations, group sessions and community based educational presentations via in-person either in clinic, in community or home visits, or by way of virtual settings (telephone, OTN, video conferencing)
- Diabetes education (at-risk, pre-diabetes, diabetes, pediatric diabetes, gestational diabetes)
- Attends multidisciplinary meetings as an Allied Health member
- Leads presentations and workshops centered around nutrition (prevention, cooking demonstrations, etc)
What You Bring
- An accredited 4-year or equivalent degree with appropriate courses in sciences and human nutrition, administration and humanities
- Completion of Dietetic Internship or equivalent supervised practical training
- Successful completion of the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination
- Member of College of Dietitians of Ontario (or eligible for membership)
- Certified Diabetes Educator (willingness to obtain certification within a prescribed time frame)
- Membership in the Diabetes Educator Section of the Canadian Diabetes Association
- Ability to communicate in local native Cree language is an asset
