Summary
The Lead Systems Administrator performs and oversees a variety of key functions to ensure IT infrastructure is available, reliable, secure, and stable. The role applies advanced judgment and analysis in the evaluation, selection, installation, and maintenance of hardware systems that are highly visible and critical to the business. This position will serve as the technical lead to projects that are large and/or complex, working closely with project leads and the IT architects. The Lead Systems Administrator will provide mentorship to new team members, as well as technical guidance to the rest of the team through documentation and continual training. Primary duties revolve around applying existing Linux skills with the willingness to learn, manage and support all aspects of our big?data environments. Duties and Responsibilities Expertise in infrastructure design, configuration, installation, security and ongoing support. Lead the installation and configuration of software updates and deploy application code releases to production and non?production environments. Accountable for installing, configuring, and maintaining high availability of the environment. Lead performance and capacity planning; provide recommendations to management to sustain forecast business growth needs. Lead the team to develop and communicate a technical vision that is easily understood by all levels of management. Implement and maintain disaster recovery methodologies and create documentation that follows industry best practices. Proactively identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Work closely with vendors to ensure that supporting operating systems are compliant with applications, including required patch levels, hot fixes, and revisions.
You Must Have
7+ years of systems administration experience, of which a minimum of 3 years at a senior level in a larger scale or enterprise environment. Bachelor's degree. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on?site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job. United States Citizenship. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (if required for the position).

Experience with cyber security design requirements, including resolving complex security issues by developing and implementing innovative technical solutions. Advanced knowledge of specific operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise), servers, peripheral devices, and workstations. High proficiency in scripting, programming, and automation tools (Puppet, Python, Ansible) to support database, web, and application administration. Experience with installation, configuration, and administration of enterprise web services, application servers, databases, clustering, backup and recovery systems, portals, firewalls, VPNs, terminal services, authentication and authorization, collaboration, and load balancing. Understanding of Big Data concepts and components (Hadoop ecosystem and/or Cloudera Data Platform). Experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL, Hive, Cassandra, In?Memory, MongoDB, HBase). Effective communication skills to partner closely with citizen analysts and data scientists. Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, Git, and Ansible. Demonstrated expertise in Kubernetes orchestration across multiple platforms with hands?on experience designing, deploying, and operating container workloads on OpenShift, Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA), and Amazon EKS, including multi?cluster management, CI/CD integration, and automated scaling/monitoring. Deep proficiency in end?to?end Red Hat OpenShift lifecycle management, architecting and maintaining both on?premises and cloud?based OpenShift environments, leveraging Advanced Cluster Management, Advanced Cluster Security, Quay for secure image registry, and associated tooling (operators, Service Mesh, GitOps) to ensure high availability, compliance, and continuous delivery. Understanding of AI and machine learning pipelines, GPUs, and TensorFlow. Experience with working with application teams to establish processes for full lifecycle operations including onboarding, security compliance, and CI/CD pipelines. Proven ability to mentor peers to improve team technical bench strength. Ability to develop and communicate a technical vision that is easily understood by all levels of management.
