POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Molding Manager, the Process Engineer is responsible to provide day-to-day technical process support leading to process capability and reliability on the Molding Shop Floor. The Process Engineer will identify and drive Continuous Improvement (CI) projects leading to Molding achieving or exceeding its performance targets and drive CI projects to improve product quality, overall manufacturing efficiency, and productivity while reducing cost and waste. The PE will also foster a working environment that is fair, equitable and driven to continuously improve.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
- Involvement in the design, testing and signing off on new equipment/processes on Molding's behalf
- Develop Molding procedures & Job Breakdown Sheets, providing leadership in implementing new procedures
- Owner of plant layout for location of existing and new equipment and identifying key methods for improving current layout to eliminate waste
- Understand Molding/Operations objectives and actively seek to understand issues negatively impacting Molding and downstream customer performance and recommending or implementing corrective actions
- Act as Molding's primary contact and representative to Engineering regarding any Molding process related project or issue
- Provide leadership and drive improvement actions regarding equipment upgrades and purchases
- Build rapport and constructive relations with individuals at all levels in the organization, ensuring effective and clear communication to all stakeholders on issues and projects within your scope
- Ensure appropriate documentation, spare parts and preventative maintenance programs are in place by project completion
- Provide feedback and drive improvement regarding technical processes on the shop floor by identifying improvement opportunities and participating in establishing the performance metrics and the CI program for the Molding department
- Facilitate implementation of changes on the shop floor, working with shift supervisors and other shop floor team members as needed
- Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in specific CI projects and establishment of Standard Work
- Responsible for training Team Members on cGMPs, Food Safety and Quality procedures.
- Proactively identify and suggest ways to eliminate hazards, also correcting unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed and participating in Safety Investigations when required
- Under general supervision of the Molding Manager, manage Molding projects including identification, justification, risk assessment, ROI, cost management, time management, scope management and resource management.
- Assist in design conceptual layout of plant & production automation projects & manage the project from conception to implementation.
- Develop project cost estimates & project time lines.
- Lead production equipment projects including project analysis, planning, design, sourcing, ordering & implementation.
- Provide Safety training when required.
Note: Work is performed in a production environment with high levels of noise.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Educational Requirements: Post graduate degree or diploma, preferably in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum Experience/Field: Minimum 3 - 5 years of technical experience in a fast paced, high volume lean manufacturing environment. Experience in injection molded/thermoformed plastics and/or food packaging industry preferred.
- Courses Required:
- Computer Skills: Good PC skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and applications. Familiarity with AutoCad and Solidworks
- Communication Skills: Proven track record working with people and problem resolution and strong interpersonal, collaboration skills
- Additional Education/Experience/Skills: Strong mechanical ability and proven ability to root cause and determine permanent corrective actions. General knowledge of In Mold Labeling (IML) and injection molding operations is highly desirable. A bias for action and proven ability to deliver results
