Leonardo is a global high‑tech company operating in Aerospace, Defence and Security. The Data Practice within the Cyber & Security Division is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to create and deploy advanced models that support defence, government and commercial customers. This role is based in Bristol, UK, and offers flexible hybrid working.
Responsibilities
Build, integrate, test and scale machine learning models, including NLP and Computer Vision.
Own the full ML life‑cycle: design, train, productionise, and maintain models while ensuring best practices, security and quality.
Develop neural networks and implement MLOps workflows.
Collaborate with Data Engineers and DevOps Engineers to enable continuous integration and deployment of models in production.
Research and pilot new technologies and software versions.
Manage cloud and operating‑system environments and work with big‑data technologies such as Spark.
Engage stakeholders to gather functional and non‑functional requirements and communicate model implications.
Essential Qualifications
UK SC clearance or eligibility to obtain it.
Proven experience developing diverse machine‑learning models.
Strong grasp of frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and machine‑learning architecture.
Experience with hyper‑parameter tuning, optimizer libraries, and model optimisation.
Exposure to MLOps workflows, CI/CD, and data pipelines.
Proficiency in Python and SQL.
Solid understanding of software‑engineering principles and data‑warehousing.
Critical thinking, problem‑solving and a willingness to learn.
Desirable Qualifications
UK DV clearance or eligibility to obtain it.
Degree or equivalent in STEM, Data, AI or programming.
Track record of AI projects delivering measurable business outcomes.
Production‑level code written for neural‑network deployment.
Experience with Docker, NLP, computer‑vision, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
Experience with Apache products such as Hive, Spark, Hadoop, or NiFi.
Programming experience in languages other than Python.
