Position: Primary Care Paramedics (PCP)

Schedule: 14 days on / 14 days off, with potential for extended rotations upon request.

Location of Work: Northern BC and Yukon

Anticipated start date: December through January

Position Summary

Primary Care Paramedic for remote fly-in/fly-out project.

Must be comfortable traveling in helicopter and working in remote wilderness locations.

The position requires the exercise of independent judgment and decision-making, adaptability, resourcefulness, and good physical fitness.

Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

  • Currently licensed as a Primary Care Paramedic BC/Yukon
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Primary Care Paramedic
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English and good communication skills
  • Proficiency in use of medical records software, and office software such as MS Word and Excel
  • Team Player
  • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and fit for duty exam.

Preferred Experience

  • Working at remote / industrial / mining sites
  • Experience in remote care, long-term care, and occupational health and safety
  • Working in northern communities
  • Air evacuation management, coordination, and preparation

Job Responsibilities and Duties

In an emergency situation, the PCP takes directives from medical director as needed, or proceeds according to standard emergency medical practices protocols. staff should be able to:

  • Provide medical, trauma and first aid care to injured and ill staff
  • Carry out physician orders in respect to patient care if required
  • Assist in arranging emergency medical evacuations, as needed
  • Coordinate with local health officials in the event of a medical evacuation
  • Maintain records of accidents, illness and injuries including recommendations for measures to avoid illness and injuries
  • Ensure privacy for patients and confidentiality of personal information and medical records
  • Participate in camp health and safety committee and project management team
  • Assist the health and safety officer or Site Operations Manager in maintaining the health and safety plan and in keeping workers in good health
  • Participate and plan safety orientation sessions, toolbox sessions, emergency drills and scenarios for emergency medical team
  • Assist in the maintenance of emergency plans
  • Supervise the inventory checklist, ordering, receiving and stocking of medical equipment, supplies, and medications of the first aid station
  • Submit patient care reports to the company
  • Complete forms, documentation and reports as required by the relevant workers' compensation board and conduct any required follow-up
  • Maintain a daily log of activities and patient care
  • Assist in administrative duties including documentation update, client reporting system and other duties assigned by the client representative
  • Complete the camp opening, infirmary setup and camp closing activities as applicable

Compensation

  • $50.00 / hour
  • Payments are made bi-weekly by direct deposit
  • Transportation, meals, and lodging are provided while working on site
  • All medical equipment and supplies are provided or reimbursed
  • Extended health, dental, life, and AD&D after 6 months of employment
  • RRSP-matching after 1 year of employment
