Employment Type: Part-time / Temporary – 12 months, with potential extension
Salary Range: In accordance to qualifications Range $20,000 - $26,000 for 20 hours per week
Position Summary
The Town of Small Point–Adam's Cove is seeking a motivated and community-focused individual to serve as a Community and Social Programming Coordinator.
This position plays a key role in supporting the Town's ongoing recovery and community development by coordinating programs, fostering collaboration among existing community groups and committees, and building local capacity for long-term community wellbeing.
Working under the direction of the Recovery Committee, the Coordinator will plan, facilitate, and promote inclusive community-based programs and events in partnership with volunteers, local organizations, and regional agencies. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational and communication skills, experience in community engagement, and a collaborative approach to partnership-building that strengthens participation and community leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Community Program Planning & Coordination
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee community programs and events (e.g., community and seasonal gatherings, targeted activities, etc.).
- Collaborate closely with existing community groups, committees, and volunteers to align efforts, share resources, and coordinate programming across the community.
- Support the Social Committee to guide ongoing programming.
- Identify and leverage community champions and volunteers to deliver programs.
- Coordinate community spaces and identify alternative venues for key events.
- Align new programs with existing initiatives.
- Collaborate with external partners, such as provincial health services and regional organizations, to enhance program reach and effectiveness.
Community Engagement & Communication
- Serve as a primary liaison between residents, volunteers, local organizations, and external agencies.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between community groups, service providers, and Town representatives to enhance accessibility and reach.
- Develop and execute communications strategies to ensure residents are informed of programs, events, and services (e.g., flyers, social media, newsletters).
- Facilitate direct community outreach to promote participation and engagement where needed.
- Work closely with service providers to ensure community participation and accessibility.
- Promote inclusive, low-barrier programs that meet the diverse needs of the community.
Administrative & Coordination Support
- Maintain program schedules, participant lists, and activity records.
- Track attendance, feedback, and program outcomes.
- Support documentation and reporting requirements for grant or partner-funded programs.
- Assist with proposals and submissions for program funding opportunities.
Resource Development & Sustainability
- Work with existing community committees, organizations, and volunteers to build capacity for locally led programming and events.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities and partnerships to support community programs.
- Assist with reporting and compliance in coordination with Council, Town staff, and external partners.
- Recommend long-term strategies to sustain community engagement and programming beyond recovery milestones.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience in community development, social programming, recreation, or event coordination.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public engagement and outreach.
- Proven ability to collaborate with partners, agencies, and community organizations.
- Experience with community communications and direct outreach strategies.
Preferred:
- Experience in small or rural community contexts.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, inclusive community engagement practices.
- Familiarity with grant applications and program funding processes.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with frequent community visits.
- May require evening or weekend work for program events or community engagement.

- Community programs are active, inclusive, and well-attended.
- Residents report improved awareness and participation in programs.
- Partnerships with external organizations are established and leveraged effectively.
- Administrative tasks and reporting for programs are accurate and timely.
- Long-term local capacity for social programming and community engagement is strengthened.
