*Unit Manager*
The primary purpose of your job position is to supervise the nursing care on our nursing Unit. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Clinical Services to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
*Responsibilities of our Nursing Unit Manager*
1. Direct the day to day functions of the Unit.
2. Coordinate nursing services with other departments.
3. Participate in surveys as needed.
4. Supervise the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients as required.
5. Attend facility meetings as required.
6. Develop departmental budget and control expenditures to meet requirements.
7. Be familiar with State and HCFA regulations governing skilled nursing facilities.
8. Consult on care plans, treatments, etc. as necessary.
9. Serve as liaison between hospitals, physicians, community agencies and other facility departments.
10. Monitor labor hour usage and adjust staffing accordingly.
11. Participate in patient rounds with physician as needed.
12. Assist with written discharge plans as required.
13. Monitor completion of accident/incident reports as necessary and forward to the appropriate departments.
14. Monitor charts for accuracy and timeliness of all discipline documentation and initiate medication error reports, as needed.
15. Complete a monthly audit on issues as directed by Director of Clinical Services.
16. Monitor med passes for correctness.
17. Ensure that procedures for administration, storage and control of medications and supplies are followed.
18. Ensure that personnel are following their respective job descriptions and administer disciplinary action following established policies/procedures.
19. Ensure that adequate staff is hired, trained, and on duty for each shift.
20. Assist in scheduling as necessary.
21. Develop work assignments as needed.
22. Assure that employees follow established policies and procedures.
23. Complete job performance evaluations as directed.
24. Ensure availability via phone at all times to staff and delegate this responsibility as needed.
25. Assume “on call” status for staffing needs on a rotating basis.
26. Provide direct nursing care as needed.
27. Inform staff of new admissions.
28. Ensure that rooms are ready.
29. Make daily patient visits to observe and evaluate patient conditions.
30. Report problem areas to the Director of Clinical Services.
31. Make independent decisions concerning nursing care.
32. Start IV’s, etc. within scope of practice.
33. Ensure that reference material is available.
34. Participate in the quality assurance program.
35. Ensure that all workspaces are clean.
36. Assure that the proper equipment and supplies are present.
37. Assure that staff is trained to use the equipment and supplies correctly.
38. Review usage reports to determine discrepancies, follow-up to resolve discrepancies.
*Qualifications & Skills of our Unit Manager*
* Valid RN or LPN nursing license
* Advanced knowledge of EMRs
* Excellent bedside manner and communication skills
* Working knowledge of health care laws and regulations
* Experience in nursing leadership.
*Unit Manager Requirements:*
* Must possess a current, active nursing license to practice in Nebraska.
* Must possess the ability to make independent decision when needed.
* Must effectively communicate and relate with residents and family members.
* Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures
