ALS GeoAnalytics is pioneering the integration of geoscience expertise with advanced data analytics to accelerate mineral exploration and maximize resource value. Our GeoAnalytics platform powers large-scale data ingestion, processing, and visualization for our clients across the mining industry.
We're looking for a Backend Developer to join our GeoAnalytics team and help build, scale, and maintain our next-generation data and orchestration systems. You'll work on infrastructure that drives our lithological prediction platform, tesselation APIs, and backend services — all designed and operated in-house.
What You'll Do- Design, build, and maintain scalable Python backend systems and microservices for geoanalytics and machine learning workflows
- Develop and maintain AWS Lambda functions and containerized services on ECS/Fargate
- Build and maintain REST APIs using FastAPI, Flask, Django, and AWS API Gateway
- Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform
- Manage data storage and access layers, including PostgreSQL , DynamoDB , and S3 data lakes
- Collaborate with data scientists and geologists to operationalize machine learning models
- Participate in code reviews , improve CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions , and advocate for high engineering standards
- 4+ years of professional experience in backend or data engineering roles
- Strong experience with Python for backend development
- Solid understanding of AWS services, especially Lambda, S3, and DynamoDB
- Proficiency with Docker and container-based deployment
- Experience writing infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and experience with Django ORM
- Experience developing and maintaining REST APIs
- Familiarity with data engineering concepts such as ETL, data lakes, and orchestration systems
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work across frontend, backend, and data teams
- Experience with orchestration technologies, including container platforms (ECS, Fargate, Kubernete s) and ETL tools (Airflow, Athena, Glue )
Experience with monitoring and observability platforms (CloudWatch, Sentry, Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana )
Exposure to machine learning operations (MLOps ) and tools (SageMaker, Kubeflow, MLflow ) - Familiarity with AWS account, IAM permission, and cost management, as well as Azure services including Microsoft Entra ID
- Understanding of geoanalytics workflows and experience working with spatial datasets using PostgreSQL/PostGIS (spatial queries, indexing, GeoJSON/GeoTIFF handling)

Our benefits includes
An estimated annual salary of $100,000 to $120,000 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
