People Operations Generalist — Toronto, ON
Location: Toronto, Ontario (hybrid)
Team: People Operations / HR
Employment type: Full-time
About Litmus Automation
Litmus is building a high-impact People Operations function to support rapid growth. We're looking for a hands-on People Operations Generalist who will partner across the business to deliver reliable HR operations, excellent employee experiences, and a data-driven approach to people programs.
Role summary
As our People Operations Generalist you'll be a trusted partner to employees and leaders, executing core HR programs (recruiting support, onboarding/offboarding, HRIS, benefits coordination, employee relations), maintaining compliance with Ontario employment requirements, and continuously improving HR processes. You'll balance day-to-day operational excellence with projects that scale — from policy updates to HR reporting and internal processes. This position will report to the Director of People Operations.
About the Role
- Assist in day-to-day HR operations for employees: onboarding, offboarding, documentation, HRIS updates and data integrity.
- Support full-cycle recruiting for select roles: post jobs, screen candidates, schedule interviews, coordinate offers and help manage the candidate experience.
- Manage onboarding programs and new-hire orientation to ensure consistency and a great first 90 days.
- Coordinate benefits administration and liaise with providers/third-party vendors to resolve issues and ensure accurate, timely payments and enrollments.
- Ensure HR compliance with federal and Ontario laws and regulations (ESA, Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA, Federal employment requirements when applicable) and support policy updates.
- Act as a first responder for employee relations and HR inquiries — provide coaching, investigations, documentation and escalation to senior People leaders as appropriate.
- Maintain and optimize HR systems (HRIS/ATS) and ensure accurate people data and reporting.
- Produce HR metrics and dashboards to inform leadership (turnover, hiring pipeline, headcount, absence trends, etc.).
- Lead small projects that improve People processes (e.g., automation of manual tasks, process playbooks, improved reporting) using AI tools to streamline work and generate insights where appropriate.
- Support learning & development and employee engagement initiatives as needed (employee engagement events, recognition programs).
Requirements
- 3 years of hands-on People Operations / HR experience (startups or fast-growing companies strongly preferred).
- Solid experience with Canadian payroll and benefits practices and vendors.
- Track record managing HRIS and ATS platforms (e.g., Greenhouse, Lattice, Deel — or similar).
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario employment requirements and employment-related compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to confidentiality and documentation.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on tight timelines.
- Comfortable partnering with cross-functional stakeholders from people leaders to individual contributors.
- Data-driven mindset — comfortable producing HR metrics and using them to inform decisions.
- Demonstrated curiosity about and ability to use AI and automation tools to improve People Operations processes and productivity. (We're building an AI-native culture and expect employees to embed AI thoughtfully into day-to-day work to improve the employee experience.)
Who You Are
- Excited to have an immediate impact on HR processes and employee engagement.
- Someone who has zeal for continuous improvements and a learning mindset — open to new tools and ways of working.
- Able to handle sensitive employee matters with the upmost integrity and discretion to ensure a safe and professional environment for all employees.
- You have a bias for action — you get things done and improve as you go.
- A team player that likes to win.
- Passionate about processes, but can also balance the chaos of a startup that is constantly making quick pivots.
Nice to haves
- HR designation (CHRP/CHRL/SHRM/PHR or equivalent) or post-secondary degree in HR, Business Administration or related field.
- Experience implementing HR process automation, tooling, or playbooks at scale.
Why join Litmus
- Be part of a growing People team helping shape the employee experience in Toronto and across the global company.
- Opportunity to own operational programs and deliver projects that scale.
- We're creating an inclusive culture and strong focus on learning and development.
- You will have the ability to make an impact on processes and initiatives that enhance the employee experience for all global employees.
