Join the Integrated Infrastructure Services department in a role where your Geographic Information System (GIS) and data analytics expertise will directly shape the future of Edmonton's open spaces

As the Open Space GIS Analyst, you'll be responsible for implementing tools and processes that drive critical asset management decisions within the Infrastructure Planning and Design Branch. This position focuses on collecting, summarizing, analyzing, and reporting on open space inventory, condition, and project financials. Your proficiency in various platforms, including GIS software, dashboards, and Google Sheets, will be essential for success. You will also provide GIS support for developing and maintaining the data collection tools used by the inventory assessment team.

What will you do?

  • Conduct both spatial and nonspatial analysis on open space inventory data
  • Summarize inventory and assessment data using tools like ArcGIS Dashboards, Looker Studio, and Google Sheets
  • Apply statistical techniques and mathematical formulas to support inventory and deterioration curve analysis
  • Develop and maintain GIS applications for spatial data collection and improve automated processes using specialized GIS software
  • Build, maintain, and run FME workbenches to push data to the asset management system (AEGIS)
  • Provide expertise in spatial data quality control, ensuring the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of collected information
  • Extract financial data from SAP, including project and contract actuals
  • Support project prioritization and develop/maintain tracking sheets for projects, minor renewal, and the overall capital program
  • Summarize financial dashboards using tools like Looker Studio
  • Maintain and update the team's Google site and support file management changes
  • A Degree from a recognized institution in the field of Civil Engineering, Geography, Geosciences, Cartography, or another GIS-related field, with coursework in data management, GIS, and spatial analysis; 
  • OR

  • A Degree from a recognized institution in any business, science, or mathematical field coupled with a certificate or diploma from a recognized institution in Geographical Information Systems
  • Minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the work assignments in GIS tool development, map generation, GIS reporting, and data analytics
  • Skills required for success:

  • A high level of comfort using GIS (ArcGIS - ESRI) and CAD software
  • Proficiency with programming languages and Safe Software's FME , dashboard applications (Looker Studio, ArcGIS Dashboards), and spreadsheets (Google Sheets)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively within teams and to express ideas and concepts effectively and persuasively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work well under pressure with imminent deadlines
  • Thorough understanding of GIS fundamentals and asset condition assessment

  • Assets:

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the related work
  • Knowledge of SAP software
  • Knowledge of how to leverage Artificial Intelligence
