Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer
on behalf of our client, a company that offers a wide range of products for babies, mothers, and families-providing practical, solutions-driven tools to support parents throughout their journey.
This role is essential in transforming product concepts into market-ready consumer products. The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer serves as the bridge between ideation and mass production, ensuring products are designed for manufacturability while maintaining innovation, quality, and performance. This individual will manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, driving development efforts, solving complex engineering challenges, and collaborating cross-functionally to bring successful products to market. Key Responsibilities:
Project Management
Manage multiple design projects from concept through production tooling release.
Track project schedule, budget, and quality to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
Oversee the stage-gate design process to maintain clarity and structure across project phases.
Product Development
Convert product ideas into functional, manufacturable designs.
Identify and incorporate critical product characteristics into engineering solutions.
Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to meet performance requirements.
Establish production specifications and define first-quality product metrics.
Evaluate component changes and collaborate with supply chain on ongoing improvements.
Support qualification and tracking of tools, molds, and fixtures.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Collaborate with strategy, design, packaging engineering, regulatory, reliability, and operations teams to overcome challenges and ensure project success.
Provide engineering insights to internal and external partners to maintain alignment on project goals.
Vendor Collaboration
Assist in selecting component suppliers and final manufacturers.
Oversee production milestones, including first shots through final article verification.
Maintain consistent communication with vendors to support strong partnerships and manage expectations.
Travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 15%!)(MISSING).
Key Deliverables
Tool-ready 3D product designs.
Product and material specifications.
Design for manufacturability documentation.
Sustaining engineering support, improving existing product lines.
Input for reliability, safety, and regulatory testing requirements.
Additional engineering projects as assigned.
Requirements include:
Education:
B.S. or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Plastics Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
6-8+ years of mechanical design engineering experience.
Experience bringing consumer products to market.
Experience in regulated industries (children's products, medical devices) preferred.
Experience with soft goods or textiles highly desirable.
Skills:
Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred).
Strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM).
Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, including injection molding.
Strong multitasking and organizational skills.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
Ability to learn new technologies and concepts quickly.
Experience with FEA analysis, tooling design, and manufacturing processes.
Certifications:
No specific certifications required; relevant engineering or design certifications are a plus.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for consumer products.
Understanding of reliability, safety, and testing requirements for engineered goods.
Knowledge of supply chain interaction, mold development, and manufacturing workflows.
