About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Technical Services Specialist is responsible for ensuring that operations are equipped with the necessary equipment and resources to meet production requirements, as well as supporting product development initiatives by managing all associated project tasks.
In conjunction with R&D, this position supports new product development through project management of product development process and implementing opportunities to enhance the efficiency of existing processes.
The successful applicant will have a firm grasp of project management practices as well as a technical background allowing them to specify, purchase and implement equipment and processes into the production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
•Work with R&D and the Product Development Team to support new product and process development, including product introductions, scale-up activities, and special projects; provide regular updates to stakeholders
•Support R&D projects to ensure efficient product scale-up and transfer to Operations; develop equipment specification, purchase and implementation during R&D and production phase
•Conduct ongoing capacity analysis and plan for process upgrades to support business growth and ensure production scalability
•Identify and prioritize process improvements and efficiencies in collaboration with department managers; present recommendations to senior management
•Investigate and introduce new technologies and processes to drive continuous improvement; monitor production KPIs and align upgrades with demand
•Review and validate packaging material changes to support product and process optimization.
•Create and maintain production documentation (SOPs, RECs, MPDs) to reflect current practices and ensure compliance
Work with Master Data Manager to maintain BOMs and routings in Microsoft Business Central to support product development
•Stay current with GMP regulations, industry standards, and applicable guidance documents to ensure operational compliance
•Provide technical leadership for new equipment purchases, including identifying requirements, preparing bid comparisons, and making recommendations to senior management
•Equipment and Supplier Management: Capable of specifying equipment requirements, soliciting and evaluating bids from equipment suppliers, and overseeing installation processes through effective coordination with contractors. Attending equipment FATs as required
•Review and approve supplier and contractor invoices
•Liaise with equipment manufacturers to confirm technical specifications and conduct factory acceptance testing as needed
•Develop and review Capex requests for new equipment, including capital, installation, facility upgrades, safety reviews, and commissioning costs; collaborate with Finance and Supply Management to assess ROI, NPV, and payback period
•Collaborate with the Maintenance department to develop preventative maintenance routines for new equipment
•Assess and ensure adequacy of building services (e.g., compressed air, power, space) to support equipment requirements and production needs
•Maintain awareness of all SF production capacities and ensure alignment with equipment capabilities
•Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including OHSA and Regulations, PSHSRs, ESA, and TSSA; incorporate these into equipment planning and implementation
Required Qualifications:
•Post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Process Technology, related field or equivalent work experience in manufacturing
•5+ years of production experience in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food services or manufacturing operations or equivalent experience
•Project Management experience or training is required
•Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Project, SharePoint, Excel, Word and Outlook
•Comfortable navigating various software and technology systems
•Intermediate level math skills, required
•Fluent in English (verbal and written proficiency), required
Preferred Skills
•PMP or CAPM designation
Other Requirements
•Based in Madawaska Valley or surrounding area
•Must be available on-site at 50 Lane Street, Barry's Bay ON 3 days/week
•Able to travel within North America
•Domestic and International travel may be required. A valid passport is an asset
•Reliable vehicle with valid driver's license, comfortable working on the road
Compensation Package
•Due to the broad scope of responsibilities and varying levels of experience considered, compensation will be discussed and determined following the interview process
•In addition to salary, this position includes an annual performance-based bonus of up to 6.5%
•3 weeks' vacation
