General Description:

The Medical Assistant works directly with the medical staff at Claris Health to perform various office and clinical duties. This includes the performing of pregnancy tests, taking patient vitals, drawing blood, administering vaccines, maintaining patient records and clinic log-books, checking insurance eligibility, explaining common medical procedures to patients, and assisting in basic examinations.

Qualifications:

  1. Certified Medical Assistant with additional training in venipuncture.
  2. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training in accordance with the American Heart Association.
  3. Ability to provide support to staff and has strong patient care skills.
  4. Agreement with the Claris Health Statement of Purpose, Mission Statement and the Policies and Procedures.

Reports to: Clinic Director

General Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain the confidentiality of patients.
  2. Assist the Clinic Director in the implementation and maintenance of all medical policies and procedures related to the medical functions of the Claris Health.
  3. Inform the Clinic Director or on-site medical provider of any medical issues which arise in the clinic.
  4. Depending on experience, may oversee other Medical Assistants, including staff, interns/externs, and volunteers.
  5. All other duties as assigned.

CLINIC SERVICES

  1. Perform pregnancy tests according to medical policies and procedures, documenting results in patient records.
  2. Perform blood draws through venipuncture.
  3. Record patient information such as vital signs, weight and changes in medical history prior to each appointment.
  4. Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments.
  5. Provide basic medical education to patients under the supervision and guidance of the Clinic Director.
  6. Provide medical referral services for patients as needed.
  7. Work with client advocates to follow up on patient outcomes as coordinated by the Clinic Director.
  8. Help maintain updated medical resources, materials and referral lists.
  9. Assist with the disposal of hazardous waste.
Public Relations
  1. Help represent Claris Health to the medical community when appropriate.
ADMINISTRATION
  1. Update and maintain all digital patient records and assist in uploading hard copy records to digital format.
  2. Oversee the ordering of wholesale medical supplies, equipment, and pharmaceutical items from healthcare companies for all clinic locations. This is executed in accordance with the budget and under the guidance of the Clinic Director.
  3. Ensure that all necessary medical forms and packets are stocked and available.
  4. Help maintain First Aid Kit, Earthquake Kit, and arrange for the calibration of all medical equipment as required in policies and procedures manual.
  5. Check insurance eligibility and help patients enroll in Medi-cal. Assist with sending insurance authorizations and interfacing with L.A. Care Direct Network and Family Pact.
  6. Assist with front office duties (greeting patients and answering phones) when available.
  7. Oversee recruitment, training, and onboarding of Medical Assistants.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the Medical Assistant is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak and hear. This position requires extensive computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Travel:

The Medical Assistant must be able to travel between locations and to attend conferences, training, and other events as required in order to acquire and maintain proficiency in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.

Work Environment:

The Claris Health work environments are busy offices. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Reasonable accommodations in the work environment may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
