The National Consumer Strategy Director is a senior leadership role responsible for driving audience growth, engagement, and monetization across Gannett's current and future national product portfolio, including USA TODAY, Play, Shopping, Pets, Autos, and other high-value content categories. This role will lead cross-functional initiatives that align editorial priorities with consumer revenue strategies, leveraging data insights, lifecycle marketing, and product innovation to deliver measurable impact. Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
Develop comprehensive marketing strategies, including goal setting, audience segmentation, market research, brand positioning, channel planning, campaign design, budgeting, performance analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to drive measurable business outcomes.
- Strategic Journey Mapping for High-Impact Content Categories:
Develop and implement strategies to enhance consumer journeys for USA TODAY, Play, Shopping, Pets, Autos, and other content categories, leveraging lead segmentation, targeted messaging, and personalization to increase user engagement and drive sustainable subscription revenue growth.
- Editorial Alignment:
Partner with editorial leaders to align marketing, editorial, and product strategies – ensuring they work in concert to meet audience needs and deliver on business objectives.
- Performance Optimization:
Lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives that drive measurable outcomes across campaigns and consumer touchpoints. Collaborate closely with the analysis team to define and monitor key performance indicators—including CPA, ROI, and engagement rates—and use these insights to inform decisions. Own a disciplined test-and-learn approach to continuously optimize performance and ensure strategies are aligned with business objectives.
- Innovation & Product Strategy:
Collaborate with product teams to develop new consumer offerings and optimize existing ones for targeted national audiences.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Drive strategic execution by partnering across key teams—including analytics, product, brand, creative studio, consumer journey, and activation—to ensure initiatives are implemented effectively and deliver expected performance outcomes. Collaborate with pricing strategists to embed revenue impact into a unified strategy aligned with marketing goals. Work closely with the creative marketing team to develop compelling assets that support and amplify strategy across all consumer touchpoints. Partner with the consumer journey team to design and implement cross-channel experiences.
- Budget Oversight:
Manage budgets and allocate resources to maximize ROI.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in leveraging AI and machine learning to enhance performance, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and adapting to emerging technologies.
- 10+ years of experience in consumer strategy, audience development, or digital marketing.
- Proven success in monetizing content through building audience and/or subscriptions.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management abilities.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $100,000 and $125,000. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
