Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Dirt Superintendent to join our team in the South/Southeast Texas area. The ideal candidate will oversee earthwork operations like excavation and grading, managing crews and heavy equipment to ensure quality and safety standards are met on schedule. Key responsibilities include site preparation, coordinating with project managers and engineers, monitoring project timelines and budgets, enforcing safety protocols, and resolving unforeseen site issues. This role requires strong leadership, knowledge of soil types, experience with heavy machinery, and effective communication skills.
Responsibilities:
· Direct and manage all excavation, grading, and soil compaction activities for road construction projects
· Supervise and coordinate dirt crews and the operation of heavy machinery and equipment to ensure efficient and timely progress
· Conduct regular site inspections to ensure that all earthwork meets project specifications and safety regulations, enforcing standards and procedures
· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other site personnel to align operations, address any challenges, and keep the project on schedule and within budget
· Proactively identify and resolve unforeseen issues on site, making swift and effective decisions to maintain project momentum
· Contribute to the planning process by defining project scope, allocating resources, and managing the schedule for all earthwork phases
· Maintain daily paperwork, timekeeping and unit reporting
· Promote positive communication among employees and work as a team with project management
· Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Knowledge:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Ability to review, understand and interpret specific job plans
· In-depth knowledge of different soil types, earthwork processes, and the operation of relevant heavy machinery
· Experience in managing project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure efficient project delivery
· A thorough understanding of and commitment to enforcing construction safety standards and legal regulations
· The capacity for quick, decisive action and proactive problem-solving to overcome on-site challenges
· Knowledge of company safety policies and TXDOT regulations
· Bilingual a plus
· One year's experience in heavy civil construction
· Knowledge of traffic control standards
· Strong leadership skills to manage teams
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
· Must have good driving record
· Ability to work some weekends and nights as needed
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to work safely in a high traffic area
· Ability to wear personal protective equipment
· The ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks, as required by the role
