Omaha/ Metro based underground utility construction company has an immediate FT heavy equipment mechanic position available. Duties include annual DOT inspections, service and repair of heavy equipment including trucks, trailers, excavators, loaders etc. (various makes) both in shop and in the field. Use of Diesel Laptop diagnostic software and excel spreadsheets for organizing parts lists etc... Service truck available for field repairs and mechanic tools.
Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screen, have a valid driver’s license, Class B CDL (MANUAL) required, DOT Annual Inspection Certificate preferred. Minimum 2 years experience. Job Description/Duties
1. Responsible for maintaining & servicing all construction equipment including trucks, trailers, generators, pumps and other construction tools by completing inspections, preventative maintenance and necessary repairs.
2. Perform annual DOT inspections on equipment as required.
3. Responsible for maintaining accurate records on vehicles and equipment.
4. Responsible for diagnosing problems and using equipment manuals and web sites to ensure that proper parts are ordered and installed correctly.
5. Supervise and direct the Fuel/Lube technician and any other shop employees.
6. Monitor shop area to maintain a safe, CLEAN & organized work area by following OSHA protocol.
7. Maintain parts inventory and order replacement parts/ supplies as needed.
8. Communicate with supervisors/owners regarding needed repairs and estimated cost of materials and/labor.
9. Communicate with operators & supervisors regarding maintenance & repairs on equipment.
10. Responsible for safe and proper use and maintenance of shop tools, as well as putting tools and supplies away at the end of the work day.
11. Update overall knowledge by attending educational opportunities and reading publications.
12. Comply with Federal and State DOT requirements including maintaining certifications & licensures as needed.
13. Responsible for following all company policies and safety policies for the general safety of all employees.
14. All other duties as assigned.
*Job Requirements *
1. Must be available to work Monday thru Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday as needed. Occasional after hours required for equipment breakdown or emergencies.
2. Graduate of an accredited Diesel Mechanic program and 2 years experience. \*Additional years of experience may take place of formal education.\*
3. Must demonstrate attention to detail and ability to work independently.
4. Must have valid Class B CDL and transportation to/from work.
5. Must be able to lift +/-50 lbs to/from ground level to truck level.
6. Ability to climb in, out and under vehicles, equipment and small spaces repeatedly.
7. Must be able to read, write and speak English in order to communicate and document effectively.
8. Must understand and follow OSHA and DOT safety regulations.
9. Ability to work well and safely with others.
10. Punctual attendance each day.
