Job Summary: This role supports the community by providing evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, care coordination, and preventative services for musculoskeletal and neurological injuries. The Athletic Trainer educates patients, families, healthcare associates, and the broader community. Acting as a liaison, they connect patients and families with physicians and healthcare services. Essential Responsibilities:
Assess injuries, administer first aid and treatment, and refer patients to appropriate specialists or physicians. Deliver high-quality care aimed at restoring mobility and strength, preventing disability, enabling athletes to return to peak performance, and avoiding re-injury. Oversee rehabilitation and evaluate readiness for athletes to resume participation, collaborating with physicians to make return-to-play decisions. Provide coverage for in-season and off-season practices and competitions at middle and high school levels as agreed upon with schools and the sports medicine department. Maintain and order necessary supplies and equipment to ensure patient safety. Educate athletic directors, coaches, athletes, and parents on injury prevention, care, and rehabilitation, including taping, nutrition, and other relevant topics. Assist with purchasing and fitting athletic equipment such as braces, bandages, and taping materials, following prescribed instructions. Operate therapeutic modalities safely, including heat, cold, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, massage, and exercise equipment both on the field and in training rooms. Manage and maintain the training room facilities. Participate in decisions regarding athlete transportation during events and assist as needed. Keep accurate, up-to-date documentation on treated athletes and communicate relevant information to involved parties. Coordinate scheduling responsibilities with the Sports Medicine Program Coordinator and adhere to established coverage requirements. Maintain certification and skills through ongoing education and participate in training presentations and in-services. Hold current CPR certification and comply with all program, department, and organizational policies and values. Support community athletic event coverage as required. Education and Experience:
Graduate of a CAATE-accredited athletic training program or internship. Preferred: One year of athletic training experience; however, not mandatory. Required: Six to ten years of experience for this Athletic Trainer Pool position. Licensure and Certifications:
Licensure or eligibility for licensure in the relevant state. National certification as an athletic trainer through the Board of Certification (BOC). Current CPR certification.
This position is based in a regional area of the Midwest United States and offers a flexible part-time schedule.
