Job Posting Ferguson has been a source of quality supplies for a variety of industries since 1953, building better infrastructure, homes, and businesses. As a Fortune 500 company with approximately 36,000 associates across 1,700 locations, Ferguson serves customers in all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Position Overview We’re seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) with strong SQL Server experience to lead and support our most critical data systems. In this role, you’ll design, implement, and continuously optimize high‑availability and disaster‑recovery (HA/DR) solutions that ensure minimal downtime and zero data loss. As a trusted technical lead and primary escalation point, you’ll partner across engineering and operations to solve complex challenges, drive performance improvements, and help shape the reliability and scalability of our database platforms. Location This role is approved to be fully remote and can be based anywhere in the United States. Duties and Responsibilities Provide support for Oracle databases, including configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting. Proactively monitor system health, tune SQL queries, optimize indexes, and manage database configurations to prevent performance degradation. Lead performance tuning and troubleshooting efforts, identifying bottlenecks and implementing effective solutions. Design, implement, and support high‑availability and disaster‑recovery (HA/DR) strategies, including Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, and Failover clustering. Deploy and upgrade multiple versions of Oracle (e.g., 12c, 19c) and Microsoft SQL Server on physical, virtual, and cloud environments. Implement robust security measures, manage user permissions, access controls, apply patches, and ensure compliance with data governance policies. Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and operations to support data‑driven initiatives. Establish and test comprehensive backup strategies to guarantee rapid recovery from system failures or data corruption. Maintain documentation for Oracle data models, dictionaries, and configurations. Provide technical leadership, mentor fellow DBAs, and contribute to strategic database planning. Participate in a rotational on‑call schedule (approximately every five weeks, shared across a team of five), providing 24/7 production support during assigned weekends. Technical Skills Required Expert‑level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database architecture. Proficiency in SQL, T‑SQL (SQL Server), and PL/SQL (Oracle) for scripting and automation. Understanding of underlying operating systems (Windows Server, Linux/Unix), networking, and storage technologies such as ASM (Automatic Storage Management). Experience with management consoles like SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio), Azure Portal, and OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (Master’s a plus). 5+ years DBA experience in enterprise, 24/7 environments; 8+ years preferred for lead‑level candidates. Strong experience with both Oracle and SQL Server in high‑volume, production environments. Hands‑on experience with RAC, Data Guard, Always On, clustering, and failover strategies. Proven ability in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and scripting (PowerShell, Python, or similar). Experience mentoring others, acting as an escalation point, and contributing to database strategy (for lead candidates). OCP and/or Microsoft SQL Server/Azure certifications preferred. Strong problem‑solving, communication, and ability to manage priorities in an on‑call environment. WMS or supply chain systems experience preferred; general understanding of distribution/logistics environments helpful. Benefits and Compensation Competitive total compensation, including a base salary in the range of $6,805.95 to $11,921.25 per month for salaried roles, plus bonus or incentive plan eligibility. Health, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; life insurance; and a 401(k) with company match. Mental health coverage, gender‑affirming and family‑building benefits, paid parental leave, associate discounts, community involvement opportunities, and more. Ferguson complies with all wage regulations and imposes an equal‑opportunity, non‑discrimination policy for all qualified candidates. Equal Employment Opportunity and Reasonable Accommodation Information: Ferguson is an equal employment employer. We comply with all applicable civil rights and wage requirements. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, national origin, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
