We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department (DSAID) at The Aerospace Corporation. The role focuses on developing AI and data‑enabled tools for the missile warning/missile tracking domain. Location:
Colorado Springs, Colorado – full‑time, 100% onsite. What You’ll Be Doing
The responsibilities include: Evaluation of technologies for scalable and resilient, mission‑critical production applications. Coordinated development and execution of AI/ML experiments. Development of proof‑of‑concept infrastructure and software prototypes. Collaboration with small, innovative teams to deliver features and products. Writing and verbal presentation of results to team members and stakeholders. Fostering an environment of learning and progress with team members. Demonstrating accountability and innovation for leadership competency development. Roles and responsibilities may evolve over time. Ongoing learning is required to stay current with government missions and the evolving data science and AI landscape. Minimum Requirements
Senior Member of Technical Staff
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, or AI/ML Researcher in any domain. Proficiency in at least two programming languages (e.g., Python, R, C/C++) and ML frameworks such as pandas, PyTorch, or JAX. Experience with on‑policy and off‑policy reinforcement learning algorithms such as Deep Q‑Learning, A3C, and PPO. Working knowledge of fundamental graph theory and graph neural networks. Hands‑on experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.). Understanding of software engineering concepts with an AI focus (MLOps/DevOps, ML development lifecycle, data structures). Working knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Engineering Specialist
8+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, or AI/ML Researcher. Demonstrated experience architecting, designing, or implementing enterprise‑scale AI/ML solutions with multiple tenants and cloud integration. Experience leading technical teams and mentoring junior staff. Familiarity with data pipelining and streaming technologies (Apache Kafka, Temporal, etc.). U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. How You Can Stand Out
Advanced degree in Computer Science or related field. Publications in reinforcement learning, graph theory, or related AI/ML domain. Experience designing or managing enterprise‑level ML platforms and production‑grade models at scale. Familiarity with high‑performance computing hardware for ML (GPUs, TPUs), CUDA programming, and advanced ML optimization techniques. Demonstrated judgment and critical thinking in a scientific discipline. Experience guiding teams toward software development best practices. Experience with SQL, NoSQL, Cypher, or other big‑data querying languages. Contributions to open‑source software (GitHub, Kaggle, etc.). Experience deploying ML models on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.). Domain expertise relevant to missions such as USSF, NRO, etc. Active security clearance. Compensation
Grade‑based pay range: $110,400.00 – $165,500.00 per year. Benefits
