The culture is rooted in a foundation of patient safety and focused upon providing the highest quality healthcare in the BUMC Emergency Department.

Emergency Department Details:

Level I Trauma Center

113,000 annual ED volume

Patients per Hour:

* 1.45 - Main ED

* 2.5 - 3 - Fast track

Admits all patients except: Pediatrics, Psychiatry & Burns

Admission rate: 19.8%

Obs rate: 4.9%

Transfer %: 1.7

EMS: 30%

85 patient treatment rooms

ICU beds: 100

24/7 Radiology

POCUS

2 dedicated department CT scanners

Coverage:

BUMC runs 3-5 APP shifts each day (10 hour shifts)

* 7a-5p, 11a-9p, 5p-3a - Sat & Sun

* 7a-5p, 8a-6p, 3p-1a, 5p-3a - Mon-Fri

POD System (A-E)

* A - Trauma Pod

* B-E - General Medicine

MSE shifts Wed-Fri

11 physician shifts each day

EM residency program

* APP's will work with residents
