The Office of the Attorney General of Texas is seeking an experienced and highly motivated PostgreSQL Database Developer to support mission-critical enterprise applications and large-scale data environments. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on database professional with deep expertise in PostgreSQL development, performance optimization, and enterprise data architecture. The selected consultant will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing complex database solutions that support high-volume applications across the agency. Candidates should possess strong technical skills, excellent analytical abilities, and the capability to thrive in a fast-paced Agile environment. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and optimize PostgreSQL database components including SQL queries, PL/pgSQL functions, triggers, stored procedures, and indexing strategies. Collaborate with application development, integration, and business teams to deliver scalable, data-driven enterprise solutions. Analyze complex datasets and data flows to ensure system reliability, integrity, accuracy, and performance. Lead database performance tuning efforts through query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing improvements, and database refactoring. Support logical and physical data modeling initiatives aligned with enterprise architecture standards and scalability requirements. Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide detailed root cause analysis for bottlenecks and data inconsistencies. Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, code reviews, technical discussions, and solution design sessions. Ensure compliance with agency security standards, governance policies, and database best practices. Support modernization, migration, and upgrade initiatives involving PostgreSQL and related technologies. Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience as a Database Developer or similar role. Strong hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL including SQL, PL/pgSQL, stored procedures, triggers, indexing, and query optimization. Experience supporting large-scale, high-volume enterprise applications and mission-critical systems. Strong understanding of relational database concepts, normalization, and data modeling principles. Expertise in performance tuning, execution plan analysis, and troubleshooting complex SQL/database behaviors. Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments. Strong collaboration, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience with ETL pipelines, data integration tools, and batch processing frameworks. Familiarity with CI/CD processes and database deployment automation. Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and managed PostgreSQL services. Prior experience supporting government or public sector environments is a plus.
