Job Description:

At bp, we are seeking a highly motivated Instrument & Electrical (I&E) Supervisor to join our team at the Whiting Refinery. In this role, you will lead the safe and efficient execution of maintenance activities, ensuring the reliability and availability of refinery operations.

You will provide daily direction to the I&E team, champion continuous improvement, and collaborate cross-functionally to optimize maintenance resources. This position is critical in driving high-quality, proactive maintenance while fostering a strong safety culture and strong team performance.

The ideal candidate is adaptable and collaborative, brings a continuous improvement mindset, and has a strong passion for developing people and advancing operational excellence.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead and support safe, reliable, and high-quality maintenance execution in alignment with bp values

  • Set clear daily priorities and direction for the I&E team

  • Coach, develop, and manage team performance through active leadership and engagement

  • Collaborate with Planning, Scheduling, Reliability, Maintenance Engineering, and Operations to improve resource utilization

  • Drive continuous improvement using Agile tools and standard processes

  • Develop and implement improved job methods, tools, and maintenance techniques

  • Ensure minimal rework and high-quality execution of maintenance activities

  • Monitor work progress and resolve or call out barriers to schedule completion

  • Coordinate work permits and ensure compliance with safety procedures

  • Lead weekly scheduling and status meetings with asset teams

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records (paper and digital systems such as SAP/BPW)

  • Support turnaround (TAR) planning and execution activities

  • Provide technical guidance and support for electrical systems and instrumentation

  • Track and manage KPIs, including budget and performance metrics

  • Promote a clean, safe, and compliant work environment

  • Participate in safety verification activities and leadership-in-the-field initiatives

  • Provide coverage for other supervisors as needed, including off-shift or weekend assignments

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in electrical and/or instrumentation maintenance and leadership or supervisory experience

  • Strong background in maintenance and reliability practices

  • Proven success in driving continuous improvement within maintenance operations

  • Experience in a multifaceted, fast-paced industrial environment

Technical Expertise:

  • Low, medium, and high voltage systems (breakers, contactors)

  • Power distribution transformers (operation, testing, maintenance)

  • Electrical system testing procedures and equipment

  • NFPA 70E standards and electrical safety practices

  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic skills

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and standards

Additional Skills:

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills

  • Workforce planning and scheduling experience

  • Basic cost control and budgeting knowledge

  • Familiarity with union work environments

  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities

  • Proficiency with systems such as SAP, Meridium, Beamex, and Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

  • Advanced knowledge of work permitting and risk assessment processes
