The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing direct, hands-on support to residents with their daily personal care needs, ensuring comfort, dignity, and overall well-being. This role assists residents with activities of daily living, including grooming, hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and social engagement, while also monitoring and reporting changes in condition to the care team. CNAs promote a safe, clean, and supportive environment by assisting with meals, housekeeping, and resident activities, and by fostering effective communication with residents, families, and staff. Through compassionate care and teamwork, the CNA helps residents maintain the highest possible level of independence, health, and quality of life.
Essential functions include assisting and providing direction to residents regarding their personal care needs, answering signal lights or intercom systems to determine residents' needs, taking and recording vital signs, transporting residents or assisting with walking, changing bed linens, running errands, directing visitors, answering telephone, assisting with laundry and housekeeping duties, assisting residents to and from dining room as needed and assisting with meals, encouraging and assisting residents to participate in activities, listening to and understanding the problems of residents and reporting observations immediately to the care team as needed, promoting the physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing of each resident, understanding the resident's advance directives and following their wishes, ensuring effective communication is being utilized by community staff with the residents' families concerning residents' care, working well with others and taking direction from management, as well as taking initiative with the capability to engage in conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent preferred, completion of an accredited CNA program required, one year of experience as a certified nursing assistant preferred, CPR or BLS certification preferred, and demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications.
Working conditions may need to walk or stand for extended periods and move throughout the community, resident apartments, and other areas of the community, occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as climb or balance, communicate effectively and identify/interpret written information, lift up to fifty (50) pounds independently, and up to 200 pounds with assistance, follow all infection prevention and control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, to ensure the health and safety of residents, staff, and visitors, actively participate in all staff activities aimed at fostering teamwork, unity, and morale, contribute as a collaborative team player, working alongside colleagues to create a supportive and cohesive work environment, stay current on all training and ongoing education initiatives, and actively pursue self-improvement and embrace opportunities for continuous learning to enhance their skills and knowledge.
