Applications Engineer III
to provide advanced technical expertise, lead complex application support activities, and serve as a key liaison between customers, engineering, and sales teams. This position is ideal for an experienced applications engineer with deep knowledge of municipal and industrial pumping systems who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused manufacturing environment. The Applications Engineer III plays a critical role in supporting strategic sales initiatives, driving customer satisfaction, and mentoring team members while delivering technical excellence throughout the quotation and order process. Position Summary The Applications Engineer III serves as a senior technical resource responsible for supporting customers and the sales organization through advanced application engineering, quotation development, technical support, and project coordination. This role works closely with Engineering, Sales, Production, and Customer Service to ensure accurate product application, successful project execution, and superior customer experience from initial inquiry through order completion. Job Duties Provide advanced technical support to customers, representatives, distributors, and internal sales teams regarding pump applications and specifications Review municipal and industrial specifications and apply appropriate vertical turbine pump solutions to customer requirements Prepare complex quotations, proposals, submittals, and technical documentation for customer presentations Lead the quotation-to-order process and coordinate project requirements through completion Work closely with Engineering, Production, and Sales to ensure proper handling and execution of customer orders Interpret and apply engineering application methods, hydraulic requirements, and pump performance data Provide detailed technical instructions and documentation to Engineering for order processing and manufacturing support Serve as a senior resource and mentor for application support personnel and customer service team members Develop and conduct customer and product training on application-related topics Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with process development across departments Build and maintain strong customer relationships through responsive communication and technical expertise Participate in trade shows, industry events, customer meetings, and sales support activities as needed Maintain accurate records and utilize company software systems including Excel, Word, Outlook, and ERP-related tools Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience required 5–10 years of experience in municipal and/or industrial vertical turbine pump applications Advanced knowledge of pump systems, hydraulic applications, and engineering specifications Strong understanding of quotation preparation, submittals, and technical sales support Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong customer interaction abilities High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and related business software Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments Physical Demands and Work Environment This position primarily operates in an office environment with regular interaction between engineering, manufacturing, and production departments. The employee must be able to sit or stand for extended periods, use computers and office equipment daily, and occasionally walk through shop or production areas. The role requires frequent communication by phone, email, and in person. Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 30 pounds may be required. Why Join National Pump Company?
