Role The Client Data Specialist is a senior-level, customer-facing data professional responsible for supporting the successful launch of client projects by helping customers provide the data needed for execution. This role works directly with client stakeholders at the beginning of projects to define data requirements, communicate formatting standards, negotiate for complete and well-structured source data, and transform incoming files into the company’s standard input formats. The Client Data Specialist also performs broader data analyst responsibilities, including data profiling, cleansing, validation, mapping, documentation, and support for ongoing business and project data needs.
Key Responsibilities
Partner directly with clients at project initiation to identify required data, clarify expectations, and establish submission standards
Guide clients toward complete, accurate, and properly formatted data deliveries that meet project and operational needs
Review, profile, cleanse, normalize, and transform client-provided data into standard internal input formats
Identify data quality issues, missing elements, inconsistencies, and formatting problems, and work with clients and internal teams to resolve them
Develop and maintain data mappings, transformation rules, validation checks, and supporting documentation
Perform ongoing data analysis to support project teams, operational processes, and business decision-making
Collaborate with internal stakeholders across project management, operations, product, and technology teams to ensure data readiness and usability
Support continuous improvement of client data intake standards, templates, and onboarding processes
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of experience in data analysis, data onboarding, data conversion, or related roles
Strong client-facing communication skills, including the ability to explain data requirements clearly and professionally influence external stakeholders
Experience working with messy, incomplete, or inconsistently structured source data
Strong skills in Excel, SQL, and Python
Experience with data cleansing, transformation, validation, and reconciliation
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
Ability to work effectively across both business and technical teams
Experience supporting client implementations, onboarding, or project-based delivery environments
Familiarity with CSV, flat files, spreadsheets, and other common inbound data formats
Experience creating repeatable data preparation and quality control processes
Knowledge of data mapping, reference data standardization, and operational data workflows
