Position Description The Construction Superintendent (CS) is responsible for the safe completion of projects within budget, on schedule, to the company\'s quality standards, and to the customer\'s satisfaction. Responsibilities include safety compliance, craft supervision and production, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, material handling, daily reports, quality control and craft training. The CS\'s duties will vary as required to support the project team.
Position Qualifications
Experience managing or overseeing installation of low voltage building systems
Electrical / Low Voltage Systems experience – 3 to 7 years
Communications Systems Installation Supervision
Outside / Inside Plant Cabling Installation Supervision
Structured Cabling Systems Installation Supervision
Credentials: PMP or BICSI - RTPM (Certified Technology Project Manager)
Other desirable credentials: BICISI Certified Cable Installer, RCDD – Registered Designer
Experience includes: Security Systems Integrator
Audio Visual Systems Integrator
Communication System Integrator
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or Business. Professional accreditations, including DBIA, LEED, etc.
Essential Duties The following are the primary tasks of the Construction Superintendent, some of which may be delegated to jobsite personnel, but require close supervision:
Safety – Ensure safety is properly incorporated into job planning and execution; promote accountability among staff and subcontractors as it relates to project safety policies; enforce these policies by actively participating in safety-related functions.
Quality – Responsible for all quality control on the project, including Company and subcontractors; address repetitive quality problems with subcontractors or vendors.
Job Planning – Develop and implement the pre-job plan; create material handling and site utilization plans.
Scheduling – Participate in project scheduling to ensure it aligns with the job plan.
Mobilization – Complete specific tasks as assigned in pre-job planning sessions.
Coordinate and supervise all Company work forces on the project, including employment of laborers and craft persons. Authority to hire and fire hourly personnel under supervision; indoctrination of Foremen and accountability.
Develop Assistant Superintendents, Coordinators, Engineers, Foremen and craft persons.
Personnel evaluation, development, and retention. Define expectations, provide feedback, evaluate personnel, and recommend promotions or terminations as needed.
Coordinate and schedule all subcontractors; hold weekly scheduling meetings with subcontractors’ Foremen.
Develop forms detailing and special construction methods for job efficiency.
Maintain accurate time keeping and cost records.
Study labor recaps and cost controls to identify areas needing attention and initiate changes to meet budget.
Expedite vendors and subcontractors daily/weekly.
Material Receiving – Inspect received material for quantity and quality; ensure receiving tickets are signed and coded.
Equipment – Review equipment needs with supervisor.
Owner Relations – Participate in Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings; inform Owner and Representatives of schedule changes and potential conflicts.
Maintain positive relations with customers and neighbors.
Maintain Project Logs.
Physical Work Classification & Demands
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly.
Walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, reading/seeing, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, typing as needed by workflow.
Occasionally operate a computer or tablet and other office machinery.
Frequent communication with employees and external stakeholders regarding project administration.
Read blueprints and take/verify field measurements.
Climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, grasping; ability to manage physical tasks on-site.
Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified.
Occasionally exposed to high and low temperatures; frequently exposed to noise and outdoor elements.
