PE Global Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Project Director on behalf of a leading public sector organisation based in Dublin.


This is a rare and high-impact leadership opportunity to play a central role in the planning, procurement and delivery of Ireland’s most significant national infrastructure programmes. The Opportunity

You will take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of major infrastructure programmes, working closely with Government Departments and State bodies across a variety of sectors.


This is a senior leadership role requiring a proven ability to manage complex stakeholder environments, lead multidisciplinary teams, and successfully deliver large-scale projects from concept through to completion.


You will also contribute to national initiatives focused on accelerating infrastructure delivery, sustainability, and long-term capital investment strategy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams delivering major public infrastructure programmes
  • Engage at senior level with Government Departments, State agencies, and external partners
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring the highest standards of governance and delivery
  • Oversee multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery in line with timelines, budgets, and risk frameworks
  • Drive programme performance through the development and monitoring of KPIs
  • Ensure alignment across all stakeholders on project progress, risks, and strategic objectives
  • Champion sustainability, climate action, and ESG principles across all project phases
  • Review and approve key project documentation, reports, and investment cases
  • Provide strategic advice to public sector clients on capital project delivery
  • Support the ongoing development of internal capabilities and project delivery functions
  • Coordinate and allocate resources across programmes effectively

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications

  • Degree (Level 8 or higher) in Engineering, Construction, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, or a related discipline
  • Postgraduate or professional qualifications in project/programme management or leadership are advantageous
  • Chartered status (or equivalent) with a recognised professional body is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of public sector project governance frameworks

Experience

  • Minimum 15+ years’ experience in the delivery of major infrastructure or construction projects
  • Proven track record managing projects through initiation, procurement, and delivery phases
  • Strong experience in budget management, including capex/opex, cost control, and risk management
  • Familiarity with public sector delivery frameworks and governance processes
  • Experience in strategic advisory, commercial negotiation, and dispute resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large, multidisciplinary teams
  • Deep understanding of the construction sector, supply chain dynamics, and associated risks
  • Track record of delivering complex programmes at a senior leadership level
  • Strong leadership and team management capability
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and decision-making ability
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to see the bigger picture
  • Effective problem solver with a proactive approach
  • Strong written and presentation skills
