Position Details

  • Full time, ~35hrs/week (5 shifts a week, ~7.5hrs per shift)
  • Schedule flexible in terms of which days/week, but primarily early mornings (6:30am), and ideally one weekend day to act as a bridge between weekday and weekend staff
  • Starting at ??/hr (plus tips) with opportunity for advancement
  • Two? Weeks paid vacation, in the form of an accumulating "Vacation Pay" pool that can be added to any paycheque
  • Purchase of staff uniform (your choice of branded tees, sweaters, and hats) deducted from initial paycheque
  • Expect an initial training period, with a transition to full responsibilities completed mid-April

Roles and Responsibilities

Opening

  • Arrive at 6:30am
  • Brew Drip Pots
  • Dial in Espresso
  • Set up sandwich, drip coffee, espresso bar, and smoothie stations
  • Temp check all fridges and freezers
  • Check chemical levels on dishwasher and sanitizer
  • Spot check the cafe for cleanliness and orderliness
  • Turn on all lights, unlock all doors, and ensure music is playing at an appropriate volume for cafe opening at 7am

Service

  • Maintain a clean work area, and serve high quality beverages throughout shift
  • Support the team, by being available to hop on cash, prepare sandwiches and smoothies, wash dishes, etc. when necessary
  • Engage with customers, providing energetic, friendly, and informative service
  • Conclude shifts with a final restock, ensuring that the evening barista will not be lacking milk, syrups, or coffee beans as they take over

Leadership

  • Lead the coffee team by providing a source of passion and expertise for the coffee world
  • In communication with Kevin, manage stock for service and retail coffee beans, service and retail syrups, and coffee merch.
  • Communicate to the team when there are new coffees, and facilitate the launch of those coffees at TL
  • Communicate to the team at the arrival of new menus, ensuring that everyone is on the same page with recipes, and that items are available through the POS system
  • Pass on any crucial information and updates regarding equipment, processes, ingredients, etc
  • Act as quality control, ensuring that all baristas are on the same page, and that service remains consistent
  • Provide initial maintenance and troubleshooting for cafe brewing equipment
  • Communicate any series issues up the chain, so they can be addressed
  • Lead the team in problem solving coffee related issues, setbacks, or roadblocks
  • When Andrew is not around, guide the team in maintaining a high quality of service and cleanliness

Skills and Competencies

  • Must have all the technical abilities required to serve consistent, and high-quality coffee beverages (Dial in espresso, pull consistent shots, steam milk, follow and memorize recipes, clean presentation, etc.)
  • Be a friendly, team player capable of working in a small team and leading by example
  • Above all, passion for the art and craft of specialty coffee, and a willingness to learn and grow

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00-$18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
