THE OPPORTUNITY:

Frost Group is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Controller to join its team. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller supports the day-to-day financial operations of the organization and plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance processes in alignment with the CFO.

This role is responsible for managing month-end and ongoing reporting activities, supporting internal control practices, and ensuring external compliance requirements are met. It is well suited to a finance professional who values structure, reliability, and follow-through and who is comfortable working in an operational environment with defined seasonal workflows.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CONTROLLER – ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Management

  • Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements in accordance with established processes.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and oversee day-to-day accounting transactions.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to support forecasting and cash flow planning using existing frameworks and tools.

Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Monitor, evaluate, and maintain robust internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and mitigate risk.
  • Ensure compliance with all government and banking requirements.
  • Perform ongoing fraud awareness and mitigation activities by monitoring adherence to established controls.

Department Management

  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members, fostering accountability, collaboration, and consistent performance within the finance function.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight of finance workflows and deliverables, supporting consistency and accountability.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Support effective management of accounts receivable and customer invoicing processes.
  • Oversee job cost reporting and ensure information is accurate and complete.
  • Manage external reporting, including reporting to First Nations partners, bonding providers, and other stakeholders as required.

Systems and Technology Management

  • Operate and maintain Sage 300 and associated financial systems to support accurate and timely reporting.
  • Ensure data integrity and system accuracy by following established workflows and controls.
  • Coordinate with project and operations teams to ensure financial information is captured and reported accurately.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management roles, with responsibility for month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in project-based or operational environments, with exposure to construction, forestry, or resource-related industries considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience providing day-to-day leadership within a finance function, including oversight of workflows, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Proven ability to manage established accounting processes with a high level of accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Sage 300 or comparable accounting systems, including hands-on use in a reporting environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting standards, internal controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Clear and practical communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with finance leadership and operational stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000, based on skill set and experience.
  • 3-week vacation allowance.
  • Extended benefits package upon completion of probationary period.
  • RRSP program upon completion of 1-year of service.
