Job Purpose:

To ensure the development and provision of culturally appropriate community support services through a variety of program formats specific to the needs of urban Aboriginal seniors/elders, people with disabilities, the chronically ill, and those with special needs.

Qualifications:

- Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated and related work experience with health and social services

  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Aboriginal culture and history, with emphasis on the impacts of trauma, and family violence

  • Knowledge and experience in Aboriginal community development

  • Provide a culture-based approach to health promotion and prevention activities

  • Certification in First Aid/CPR and Safe Food Handling course

  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills

  • Experience in computer and group facilitation skills

  • Knowledge and experience in the area of long-term care and issues affecting Aboriginal people

  • Experience completing quarterly statistical and narrative reporting

  • Excellent ability to work in compliance with deadlines with minimum supervision

  • Experience preparing healthy meals for biweekly lunches

  • Must have valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle

  • Knowledge of Aboriginal language and culture(s) an asset

  • Proven experience in client advocacy

  • A clear Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) which includes screening for vulnerable position will be a condition of the employment offer
