Overview:
This role is responsible for leading tax and accounting services for an assigned client portfolio while providing technical oversight and guidance to a team of professionals. The position combines hands-on review and compliance responsibilities with client advisory support, workflow management, and team development. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring service quality, regulatory compliance, and the continued growth of existing client relationships.
Job Duties:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of tax and accounting professionals, providing ongoing technical guidance, performance feedback, and support.
- Review, approve, and sign tax filings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Oversee tax compliance, tax planning, and financial reporting activities for an assigned portfolio of clients.
- Serve as a senior point of contact for clients, providing advisory support and resolving complex or escalated matters.
- Identify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships through proactive advisory and consultative engagement.
- Manage workflow, turnaround times, and capacity planning to support timely and accurate service delivery.
- Conduct technical and quality reviews of tax and accounting work, providing corrective guidance and recommendations as needed.
- Stay current on changes in tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards and ensure timely implementation.
- Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies during audits, reviews, and examinations.
- Assess compliance and operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on operational planning, team utilization, and process improvement initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
- Ensure financial records and client deliverables align with internal policies, procedures, and professional standards.
Education/Certification Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Active CPA or EA credential.
Professional Experience Requirements:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in tax and accounting within a public accounting environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing technical teams.
- Strong working knowledge of tax regulations and accounting principles.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and client relationships.
- Experience working with accounting and tax software platforms, including desktop-based accounting systems and advanced Excel functionality.
- Must be proficient with QuickBooks.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
